Kerry Hints GOP May Suppress Black Votes
Presidential Elections - AP

Democrat John Kerry suggested Saturday night that Republicans may attempt to suppress black voter turnout to help President Bush to victory in November.

"What they did in Florida in 2000, they may be planning to do in battleground states all across this country this year," the Democratic presidential nominee said in remarks prepared for delivery to the Congressional Black Caucus . "Well, we are here to let them know that we will fight tooth and nail to make sure that this time, every vote is counted and every vote counts."

Kerry has a team of lawyers to examine possible voting problems to try to prevent a repeat of the 2000 election disputes. He also has said he has thousands of lawyers around the country prepared to monitor the polls on election day.

"We're not going to stand by and allow another million African American votes to go uncounted in this election," Kerry said. "We're not going to stand by and allow acts of voter suppression." ..

7. First thing I noticed too - I hate the press!
Bush "hits" but Kerry "hints."

Bush "changes his position" but Kerry "flip-flops."

Corporate-owned assholes. White House shills.

2. Well, he's not going too far out on the limb there...
... given what we already know about Florida's attempt to purge "felons" yet again this year.

4. Bingo! Say It LOUD, Hit it Hard!!!

I posted this a few weeks ago. When I first heard that they are trying to steal California! I was so mad. The fix is in folks.
I am thrilled to know that Kerry said this today. Maybe his staff reviewed our DU Threads on this topic.
Here is what I said about California. It should apply to other places as well...

My previous post: Voter Alert should come to California ASAP

...We can all sit back in California and believe that no one can mess with the votes. Even if they mess with ONE vote that is ONE vote too many!

America is absolutely nothing if every vote is not counted and valued. This group will stop at NOTHING!!!! We have got to be Pro Active before it is way too late.

The Kerry Camp needs to start a VOTE ALERT immediately...

This is a WAR of the Ballot Box and we can not win by simply getting bumper stickers, registering voters, sending out people to slap down the Swift Lies --that may be working for some but many in America are not really listening to all the intellectual debate folks.

Let's tell the American people the truth! The Kerry Campaign needs to say LOUD and CLEAR...

"Folks,we need to ALERT you right now that we are hearing that something is NOT RIGHT with the voting procedures in California, here is the situation etc. etc. etc.."

"We have asked former President Carter (or another Democratic super star) and a team of lawyers to fly to California immediately. We have asked them to set up a meeting with all those responsible for seeing that YOUR VOTE COUNTS!"

"It is CRITICAL that you meet them on the steps of the Finance Office in Sacramento on September _ at 10 am."

We need to keep them guessing as to what city will be next, just like they do us with the Security alert fear stuff.

We can not take this sitting down. I know there are many other patriots like Bev and the NAACP and ACLU that are working to keep this election on the up and up. But Californians need to hear directly from the Kerry campaign that we are well aware of what they are trying to do and We ain't going to take it any more.

Let's fight fire with fire!!!
Go get um Black Caucus!!

9. election machines not ready for massive re-count
Apparently, only one-third of all election machines in the entire US will leave a "paper trail." In other words, only one-third of the voting machines in this election will be usable for a re-count. Convenient, no?

10. Good Call. Stay on top of this Kerry.
All the naysayers here don't realize just how complex it is being at the pinnacle of the most important campaign in the world. So many important issues and crises to deal with. Good training for being president. Or, as in Bush's case, being sub-president.

12. "Do it" implies success. They will not succeed.
You are implying by your "do it" that they will succeed at the action in the title of this thread, "suppress black vote". The thread title does not include "try".

The Bush regime will not only try to suppress the black vote in the future (i.e. November), they are trying to do it now. They have sent government agents to the homes of elderly black voters already. I have not heard any reports of them sending agents to the homes of middle aged white suburban voters.

This election not only needs Kerry's attention at the top, but poll watchers and other workers up and down the line. Here is a good link:

13. They leave phone messages
Edited on Sun Sep-12-04 02:40 AM by Ohio rules
"I have not heard any reports of them sending agents to the homes of middle aged white suburban voters
I know in Ohio people get calls reminding them to register for the mail in ballot.
I didn't get such a call...my sister did!
she said "George left a message and reminded me to register for the mail in absentee ballot"

my question;
What happens to people who vote at the polls and get the mail in absentee ballots sent to them ?

Is there accountability for a one man two votes fraud situation ?

Are lawyers looking into this possibility?

As I recall, there were sacks of absentee ballot mailbags that were not counted in Fla last time around.
But no demands were made for counting the uncounted ?
Supposedly,they arrived too late.

16. If You Vote In Person AND Absentee, the In-Person Vote Counts
Since the absentee envelope has your name on it, they can discard it
if they see you voted at the polling place.

If there is early voting, you would already be crossed-off as having
voted when you show up at the polling place.

15. Of course they will and that is
what it was stupid of the DNC not to have an all out voter registration drive in the Black community, we are all going to suffer for it.

18. Would Kerry mind explaining why it was allowed to happen in 2000
and why not ONE senator would sign the Supreme Court challenge? WHY? Why is it still today, Katherine Harris and Jeb Bush have never been investigated on a Federal level for voting disenfranchise? For the Dems to understand the importance of fairness and equality, the Dems to show it. Kerry is at minimal talking about it, and that's excellent, however, he'd energize the state of Florida, including West Palm Beach and other areas that were purposely disenfranchised. By the way, the voting system in Florida remains the same, I believe the purging of voters do to criminal records remains.

Why not nominate a black Supervisor of Elections when Kerry gets to the WH? Why can't Kerry get Carol Mosley Brown involved?
