After Hurricane Ivan, prepare for the return of El Niño
http://news.independent.co.uk/world/americas/story.jsp?story=560845

Disastrous weather is set to continue for at least another six months, it was officially announced yesterday, as Hurricane Ivan headed for the Cayman Islands and Cuba after leaving at least eight people dead in Jamaica.

The US government confirmed that a new El Niño is about to strike, bringing torrential rain and droughts around the world. Meanwhile, Ivan developed winds of 155mph. Jamaica escaped a direct hit, but still suffered extensive damage. So far, at least 34 people have lost their lives, mostly in Grenada.

Niños usually kill more people worldwide even than bad hurricane years, and the announcement by the US government's National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (Noaa) presages more natural and human disasters stretching at least into the early months of next year.

"El Niño conditions have developed in the tropical Pacific and are expected to last through early 2005," said Jim Laver, director of the Noaa's Climate Prediction Centre.

Tomorrow Michael Howard will call on Tony Blair to use his relationship with President Bush to persuade him to join the international effort to control the climate change. He will say: "No one can opt out of the fight against global warming. This means persuading the Americans to join the battle. Their involvement is essential for effective action."

4. El Niño, my ass.
They should call it what Henry Rollins said it should be called:

THE MOTHERFUCKER.

5. Never Fear, KoMMander CHimp is here !
Just today the Appointee in Chief* vowed:

"I and my loyal cronies at BushCo Ltd. will not be AWOL on this krucial issue. I hereby koMMand that we initiate another 20-year study of alleged global warming, and some kind of a stupid hole in the ozone. In just another 20 years we will have the "facts" we need to make a decision or not on whether to do anything about this. So all you enviro-whackos out there can just Shut Up and Sit Down."

6. Since we're on the subject, I seem to recall BeetleBrain's
words from a mere 4 years ago.....he called Global Warming "Silly Science".

My prediction: he'll still be calling it silly science, until a hurricane shows up in his backyard, and pops the top of his house off. As he's sitting there, in his bathroom looking up, maybe he'll retract his words.

Until then? Naw.
