Worm turns for Labor in leaders' showdown (Latham outdebates Howard)
MARK Latham last night had a critical victory over John Howard in a debate which established that health and education could yet decide the election outcome.

Mr Latham defied the conventional wisdom that last week's terror attacks in Jakarta would make John Howard unassailable.

Despite the current published polls all pointing to a Coalition win, Mr Latham's strong effort – rated a conclusive victory by the studio audience "worm" – means Labor is back in the hunt as the third week of this marathon six-week campaign begins today.

The Labor leader was ahead of the Prime Minister in most categories during the nationally televised debate.

1. Good. I'm sure kicking Howard's ass will have a stimulating
effect on the rest of the warmongers.

3. That's just the official campaign
since the election was called. We've been assailed with Liberal Party propoganda all year.

still, it *does* pale in comparison to the US capaigns!

6. It's a bit encouraging though, after the way Howard has milked
the bombing in Djakarta. It was like Tampa revisited, and I
wondered if the chumps were going to fall for it again. Seems
some people aren't ready to be fooled twice.

But you can never underestimate that wily little worm.
