BBC: Putin tightens grip on security
http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/europe/3650966.stm

Quoting

....
Mr Putin said strengthening central government control was a necessary part of the fight against terrorism.

He also announced plans to create a new federal anti-terror agency.
....
The new measures will almost certainly strengthen Mr Putin's own position, and further limit the power of an already weakened opposition, our correspondent adds.
....
Further measures under consideration include restoring the death penalty, tighter controls on foreigners and the creation of a colour-coded alert system.

My comment:

Putin and Bush have a very tight relationship. Are we seeing a forshadowing of what we will face in a second Bush term?

1. I was reading this in the NY Times and thinking the same thing...
If we have another attack, will Smirk and his Merry Band of Facist Thugs seek to abolish our electoral systems to 'combat terror'? Will they try to further centralize the Federal government? Will they try to tighten their already-strong grip on the reigns of power in Washington? I'm terrified of getting answers...

2. Putin says he likes Bush's color coded Terror alert system!
LOL - but sigh.....

He also implies democracy is a bit on hold while he builds a "strong fist" central government that is more efficient than the one he has had in the past.

I wonder how the US Press would spin the above if Bush tried that here -

Oh, I forgot - the US media already tossed the Constitution in the toilet in their hurry to praise the Patriot Act 1 and 2 and the GOP/Bush as strong leaders who will lead us through the next century of continuous war against terror.
