Huge blasts hit centre of Baghdad
http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/middle_east/3665390.stm

Friday, 17 September

Two huge explosions have hit the centre of Baghdad causing many casualties, reports from the scene say.

Television pictures show US troops and Iraqi police trying to clear the area around Rashid Street, as ambulances rushed to treat the wounded.

Details remain sketchy, but witnesses say it was a car-bombing.

Another blast also hit the city, three days after nearly 50 people died in a bomb attack in Haifa Street, where gun battles are still raging.

Good Morning, Iraqnam

2. Next meme from the White House will be...
"These killers are just trying to influence our elections. Don't let these killers win. Things will get better after the elections because these killers will see that they could not alter the will of the American people."

Little Scottie is preparing his little spill now. Shrub and his minions are the worst of humanity!

4. The leaked National Intelligence Estimate shows Scottie is lying
The estimate says instability is the best they can hope for - period.

As per usual, republicans cooked up this little "These killers are just trying to influence our elections" and all will improve after November.

We need to make this point every single day, every single hour.

12. Anybody got a link to this National Intelligence Estimate?
I want to forward it to conservative Republican acquaintances - I stopped thinking of them as friends. For every piece of lying propaganda they send me, I'm sending five fact-based articles back.

You didn't really think they'd release it, did you?

Now, leaks do remain an intriguing possibility . . .

7. Kerry just needs to remind people that the elections they are..
trying to influence are the elections which are supposed to take place in January, not the election in November.

Iraq is as bad as we imagined it would be.

23. This time it's Armitage. Yep, they're influencing our elections -
http://www.reuters.com/newsArticle.jhtml?type=topNews&storyID=6265597

WARSAW (Reuters) - U.S. Deputy Secretary of State Richard Armitage accused Iraqi insurgents on Friday of engaging in a cynical bid to undermine President Bush ahead of the U.S. presidential election in November.

"They're trying to influence the election against Mr. Bush," he said during a tour of eastern and central Europe.

"It's quite obvious that they would like to raise the cost to President Bush. I think this is their cynical effort to do that and to somehow influence our elections, and they will fail," Armitage told Reuters.

Violence has surged in Iraq, prompting U.N. Secretary General Kofi Annan to say that planned Iraqi elections will become impossible if the bloodshed goes on.

25. Makes you wonder - why is he the messenger and why is the message
being delivered over there? Annan's illegal war claim? The reports coming out that there were no WMD? The reports that getting rid of Saddam was planned long before all the BS started lying about WMD?

There's got to be something more going on. Nothing this maladmin says or does isn't calcuated or planned as a defense to something that's about to blow. It's all about damage control, so what's up?

5. Is this considered a massacre (like the air strike was labeled)?
Is it a massacre when innocents are targeted or just when innocents are caught in a crossfire? If you're not outraged you might not be paying attention.

8. There is no 'moral equivalence' here
Edited on Fri Sep-17-04 07:05 AM by Aidoneus
(as an aside: there is only partial irony in my use of the term..)

Since it is I that you are obliquely asking here (my comment being referenced):--a response.. Do you see equality in these events?

a) bombing families at night in their homes as they sleep, with the bravery of being out of the range of return fire
b) bombing well-armed gangs of collaborating agents while at 'the office', directly and in person (--on the side, "innocents"?)

You refer to the former as "caught in the crossfire" on what possible grounds? If I had a flair for the argument, which I in fact don't, a stronger case for such a deflection could be made with the latter.

I have more thoughts on the latter event than just that cold recital, and they are in fact generally disapproving rather than how this may seem (I trust that there is left no uncertainty of my thoughts on the former..), but the basic facts are such.

11. We are just sooo much more efficient at it.
They are both massacres and if they work hard, they can catch up with the 13,000+ Iraqi civilians dead by Bush's war hand.

17. The numbers are far higher than that
There have been at least 10,000 killed in Baghdad alone, including the victims of the crime wave that has swept over the country since the invasion.

13. where gun battles are still raging.

Fierce fighting rages in ar-Ramadi US, south Koreans killed,
captured.

Mafkarat al-Islam, 16 September 2004, 11:55am Mecca time.

Iraqi sources report that operations of the Resistance now
being
carried out in ar-Ramadi are of a different type than
those mounted
earlier. The Resistance in nearby al-Fallujah are blocking
and
smashing any American attacks forcing them to withdraw.
But the
Resistance in ar-Ramadi are waging a protracted war of
attrition,
they say, trying to draw in the occupation troops, giving them
the
illusion that they have won and then springing sudden
surprise
attacks on them that inflict large-scale losses in their
forces.
The correspondent noted that the largest movement of
US supply
convoys and patrols are now those headed for ar-
Ramadi.

It came soon after US and Iraqi forces mounted a
major
security operation against fighters in Haifa Street, using
tanks
to block off the area amid continuing gun
battles.

He adds that another aim of the operation is to stop
insurgents from other parts of Iraq moving in to
consolidate resistance in the capital
itself. (Hahahaha, this is an inside reporter's joke,
right?- The Resistance is less than
2 miles from USBaghdad CentCom.)

And having your Quisling business competitor, who hates your guts, finger you as an Anti- Ameican and some creepy US Colonel orders Major Lovetokill to drop a 2000 lb laser guided bomb on your house.

YA THATS ABOUT IT

COLD BLOODED MURDER.
