LI man arrested in air rage case (Argument over Bush vs. Kerry)

A spirited debate on presidential politics aboard an Alaska-bound airplane has turned into an international incident, and left a Huntington Station retiree locked up in a Canadian jail on criminal charges, authorities said yesterday.

Michael Husar, 58, was arrested Friday after allegedly having an alcohol-induced bout of air rage aboard a Northwest Airlines flight to Anchorage, which was diverted to Winnipeg, Manitoba, because of the incident.

Husar, a retired registered nurse at the Northport VA Medical Center, faces local Manitoba provincial charges of causing a disturbance and criminal mischief that caused damages over $5,000 Canadian, the latter of which is punishable by two years in prison. He also faces a less serious federal charge of violating federal aeronautics regulations.

Husar boarded Flight 849 in Minneapolis on his way from New York to visit some friends in Alaska, his wife, Linda, said yesterday. Officials said Husar, a supporter of Sen. John Kerry, was engaged in a discussion on the upcoming presidential election with a woman seated next to him - a President George W. Bush supporter - when she became turned off by his belligerent attitude and complained to the flight staff.

2. Dupe
You left out the part where he laid hands on her. Can't do that. Can't get drunk and argue on a commercial flight.
Abortion, quantam physics whatever, an enclosed space where no one can retreat is the wrong venue.

3. Democrat or Republican...you misbehave in public you pay
Sounds like he was drunk and abusive. He deserves what he gets. That is no way to promote our candidate.

6. My husband heard about this last night
He thought it was the Repuke that got kicked off. Stand to reason the pilots are repukes, I think it was the responsiblity of the Flight Attendant to have kept this from escalating. He/she should have stopped serving the alcohol. I am a flight attendant and this is part of our job.

I agree with you in principle, but the article doesn't say where he had his drinks. If the attendants served drinks to someone well on the way to being intoxicated, shame on them. IF they were stuck with handling someone else's mess it stinks.

The responsibility still lies with Husar. He made the chice to drink in the first place. If he can't control his actions when he drinks (knowing when to stop) shame on him for drinking at all.

Last point: I've never sen anyone under the influence of drugs or alcohol that could/would keep his/her word about behaving themselves after being reprimanded. It's part of being intoxicated: inhibitions and/or conscience generally fly right out the window with the attention span.

12. still sounds like the crew's at fault
I'm not sure what Northwest's policies are, but I think the general rule is that airlines don't allow visibly drunk passengers to board the plane. If Northwest has the same policy, then either he was already drunk and they let him on board, or he boarded sober and was able to liquor-up onboard.

Either way, the crew is at fault for allowing the situation to develop.

13. No, they are not
the man who got DRUNK and put his hands on another person is at fault. Plain and simple.

16. You're blaming the crew for this guy's actions?
I really can't fault someone else for my own actions, and I wouldn't expect to blame the crew for this guy's beligerance towards the crew and a passenger sitting next to him. THe article points out that he laid his hands on the female passenger next to him, his wife admits he gets excited and agitated when talking politics, and she said he gets worse when he is drinking. So, this is the CREW'S fault?

That is total pop psychology BS. Sorry, is this is true, and from the interview with the guy's wife, it makes sense that he gets too excited for his own good, it is his own fault, and hell, I can almost side with the airline in fining the guy $10,000 for wasted fuel to drop his ass off.

You can always argue, but, its easier to win and convince when you discuss with rationality and calmness.

18. sorry, phrased it poorly
What I meant to say was that the crew possibly deserves some blame for either allowing him to board or continuing to serve him alcohol.

He, of course, deserves whatever he gets for the way he acted.

I need to re-read my posts more carefully. :dunce:

7. You can tell "where" someone is "coming from" by his/her snippets
I personally adore the following snippet:
It strikes me as a bit of an overreaction," said Corona, adding that Husar quickly calmed down on the plane after being reprimanded. "There was no threat or no violence. Certainly nobody was at risk safety-wise."
Democrats who read at all are getting skilled at spotting (((( spin )))), and are completely accustomed to seeing haughty, pompous flouncing about from blood-thirsty, anal bigots.

The truly hilarious offenders we are discovering are the duplicitous rightwing Republicans. What CAN be odder than the Republican mayor in Connecticut who molested two female children in his office over an extended period of time, as well as their mother and aunt? The Republican State Senator in Tennessee who went on vacation in Florida and wouldn't control himself, ran amok and "flashed" to children at the hotel where he was staying then, when he knew the people in his state had found out, blew himself up? Swaggert? That Jimmy Bakker characater? Hyde? Livingston?

Oh, the list is endless: while these people strut and stagger about trying to get our attention long enough to tell us that as they pilfer our national resources and bomb the rest of the world "into the Stone Age," they are our moral superiors.

Oh, ha ha ha.
