(U.S. Rep. Shays-R) Campaign withdraws television ad
BRIDGEPORT, Conn. -- U.S. Rep. Christopher Shays, R-Conn., has pulled a campaign television spot after some questions were raised about possible campaign or tax law violations.

The political ad, paid for by the Shays campaign, features former NBA player Charles Smith praising the 4th District Republican congressman for his support of the Charles D. Smith Foundation Education Center in Bridgeport.

Shays said Thursday his campaign decided to pull the ad after the Connecticut Post raised concerns it could violate Internal Revenue Service rules barring nonprofit charities from electioneering.

"We are going to pull the ad until we make sure we in no way jeopardize their status," Shays said.

2. Is that the same Charles Smith that was on the Knicks?
The 6'11" forward who had 8 chances to either dunk the ball or draw the foul to win the game??? If so, can you tell I'm still pissed at him.

3. Diane Farrell is opposing Shays
she may be able to pull it off - she is vocally against the war (good for her) and Shays is quite liberal (co-author of Shays-Meehan) but vociferously supports the quagmire.

5. She is a Dem. It's for CT House District 4
the southwest corner of the state that butts up against New York, including ultra-repuke richie playgrounds like Darien and Greenwich, but also solid Dem cities, especially Bridgeport.

Then there's Westport, home (for the moment) to Martha Stewart, which is a Dem-leaning ultra-richie playground...

All in all, a strange place to grow up, 'specially when one is not an ultra-richie.

6. Westport is a "Limousine Liberal" town.
Gore got 60% of the vote in 2000 against *'s 37%.

Also, Farrell is immensely popular.

It is strange to see such a rich town be so liberal. Now New Cannan, there's FReeperville.
