Former Iranian pop star urges Iranian-Americans to vote

The Associated Press
LOS ANGELES -- Former Iranian pop star Zia Atabay is hosting a new cable TV show urging Iranian-Americans to vote in November.

Atabay, whose National Iranian Television station got attention last year when it beamed messages of support for student protesters in Tehran, hosts the new show "The Power of One" from the TV station's suburban Woodland Hills headquarters.

The show, broadcast worldwide by satellite, features guests representing all political spectrums on topics ranging from terrorism to voting rights. It debuted last month and Lt. Gov. Cruz Bustamante and Councilman Bernard Parks have already appeared.

snip........

There is much at stake this election year for Iran, including how the United States deals with Iran's emerging nuclear threat, said Atabay, who is a Republican but claims he doesn't take political sides on his show.

1. Current Iranian movie goers see F-9/11
Found this an interesting read. just some excerpts;

'Fahrenheit 9/11' gets 'axis of evil' premiere

Wed Sep 15, 9:45 AM ET
TEHRAN (AFP) - Cinemagoers in the Iranian capital were given their first glimpse of 'Fahrenheit 9/11' this week, but appeared to enjoy more the rare chance to watch an American movie than its assault on their regime's arch foe George W. Bush.
....
....
."The authorities obviously gave the film the green light for political reasons, in that anything against the United States must be good," quipped one of the hundreds of mainly young people who flocked to Tuesday night's opening screening.
....
....
."They are showing this film to erase from our minds the idea that America is the great saviour," said Hirad Harandian, another cinemagoer at the uptown Farhang cinema.
....
....
.--"out of all the films people would love to see, the authorities had to go for this one -- just because this film is in line with the view of the Islamic regime."
.....
....
."It sure is a great country, where someone like Moore trashes the president and gets away with it -- and makes so much money!" he laughed.

Another woman said she was impressed with the scene where Moore chases US congressmen to ask them if they would send their children to Iraq (news - web sites).

"How many top officials here sent their offspring to fight in the Iran-Iraq war?" asked the woman, one of several who directed their frustrations at Iranian authorities -- and not President Bush (news - web sites).

The b*sh side. Most Iranians here are "for regime change," because most of them came here in 1979 when the Shah was deposed. They came here because they were the elites - many of the Persians in LA are very well to do. Most of them would favor an invasion and they often lead loud protests and marches in Westwood near the Federal Building in favor of regime change.

It is not possible to find a leader more foolish than Bush, who deals with matters by force rather than wisdom. Kerry will kill our nation while

5. What about the Iranians in Iran?
> Most Iranians here are "for regime change"

Do you have any evidence to suggest that most Iranians in Iran aren't also for regime change?

6. Nothing about Iran,
I am just trying to explain the position of the Iranians here and why they are right wingers often times.

7. I see what you mean
Yes, you are right about the Iranian immigrants who left after the Revolution.

I was expanding your point. Given the fact that the vast majority of Iranians vote for reformists who say they will challenge the theocrats, and the fact that the theocrats disqualified most of the reformists from running in the most recent election, one can easily conclude that Iranians are not happy with their current regime. I don't blame them.

8. BTW, welcome to DU.
I did a search on your posts and you are clearly to the right of most of the people here and even further to the right than I am (I am one of the more right wing members here, but a left centrist by most standards), but I appreciate your input. Continue doing it the way you are doing it and there should be no problems. I like anyone who will make others think.

11. while not happy with the current regime, I feel Iranians,
Like Americans would resent an invasion by a foreign power to replace said regime. They, like us, would rally around whatever regime to resist foreign agrssion, with all their power.
