Woody Allen condemns 'comic, tragic' Bush
The distinction between comedy and tragedy often depends on the eye of the beholder, US director Woody Allen said as he opened the 52nd San Sebastian International Film Festival in Spain on Friday.

If the US president is re-elected in November, "for me it's tragic, extremely tragic," the New York film legend said as he kicked off the eight-day event in which his new film Melinda and Melinda was screened for the first time.

(snip)

While much in life is like the film, where the way you view a story determines whether it turns tragic or becomes a comedy, Allen insisted that the rise of George W Bush has the making of a true tragedy.

"If you observe him, it's quite amusing, if you listen to him as he speaks, if you follow him closely it would provide you a great many laughs. But it's the perfect example of islands of comedy, comic moments against a very, very tragic background," he said.

Spanish director Pedro Almodovar will hand over a special award to Allen marking his contribution to the industry.

2. Just what we all need right now... Mr. Family values to pipe up.
Go play the clarinet, or make Annie Hall II.

3. "Manhattan Murder Mystery" is as close as he'll get to a sequel

seeing as it was an offshoot of the original.

I'm so sick of that stupid "family values" crap to come up whenever Allen is mentioned - after rewatching pretty much every film he's done over the past few weeks, I've fallen in love again with his work. He's a goddamn filmmaking genius!

Who the hell cares about his personal life. Picasso was a jackass too!

For making "Stardust Memories," all is forgiven. In perpetuity.

Looks like he won't be appreciated as the genius he is until he's gone. The rest of the world knows, though.

I'm sick of hearing the biggest fallacy of all: He married his daughter. He is not related to Soon Yi and never was – adoptive or otherwise. He never lived in the same house with her. He was never married to Mia Farrow, either. Now they're married and have 2 kids and Soon Yi is in her 30s. What are ya gonna do about it?

Charlie Chaplin married Oona O'Neill at a very young age and they had many children and she was with him when he died in his 80s.
