21. If the pace slowed, and only 2 soldiers were killed per day...
Edited on Sat Sep-18-04 12:47 PM by VolcanoJen
... from now until the end of the month, we'll end up with 76 dead on September 30. And that's only if the pace slows from 3.11 soldiers killed per day to 2 soldiers.

I am so fucking mad, leftchick, because another storm will probably come by the end of the month, and instead of talking about the horrors of our illegal, failed boondoggle experiment in Iraq, we'll get wall-to-wall coverage of wind-battered idiot reporters in designer raincoats.

:grr:  :grr:

23. I just don't recognize the world around me anymore.
Edited on Sat Sep-18-04 01:12 PM by VolcanoJen
Ever since the phony "handover" of "sovereignty" from Viceroy Bremer to "Prime Minister" Allawi, the killing of US soldiers has escalated steadily. In the world I used to know, that would be news. Big news.

But we don't talk about Iraq anymore, because I guess it's just not our fucking problem anymore. They're SOVEREIGN!! They can kill as many soldiers as they want, right?

Last night on Bill Maher, I heard him quote Secretary of War Rumsfeld, who said "Eventually the Iraqis will just get tired of being killed." What a brilliant plan!! Send that masterpiece upstairs to your chickenhawk bosses, Rummy, and get back to work on the Iran invasion, wouldja?

Anyone care to wager how many soldiers will die before we realize that we fucked up so completely and pull those poor kids out of there? I hope the war-mongering crowd will greet each of them at the airport with a purple heart band-aid.

We've created a new generation of lives shattered by incompetence and broken promises. I'm sick with grief about it. I used to be optimistic, and thought we learned these lessons. There's this monument on the National Mall with 57,000+ names inscribed on it; it's rather sobering, and contains a serious lesson. I wonder if that President, that idiot son of an asshole, has ever visited it.

How much more of this can we take before the half of the country that actually gives a shit explodes in violence and anger?

ON EDIT: Oh, and looking at leftchick's list, I see that we still have one soldier listed as missing. Keith Matthew Maupin. Does anyone remember him, care about him, wonder about him... anyone besides his family, whose lives remain in a macabre limbo? No, I didn't think so. :-(

Its doubtful the Phony Veterans here yesterday bragging about beating up the anti-war protesters in the early 1970's--- could care less about him.

And I certainly wasn't indicting DUers with my statement. It was aimed at the mass media, and the majority of Americans, who would be hard-pressed to name the lone Iraq War POW/MIA.

The only reason I still hold out some hope are DUers who doggedly pursue the Iraq issue, while the media reports on thunderstorms and celebrity trials.

34. You know as well as I Jen.....
That if not the weather there will be some other distraction. Heaven forbid the AmeriKans get a clue from their TVs that our soldiers are fucking DYING DAILY for a fucked up war started by a loser of a fraud*. The media will tow the WH line and lies right through the election and then some.

It is mind boggling when I look through the yahoo Iraq photos daily and look at the carnage that is Iraq. The dead babies and mothers and fathers. The dead and wounded soldiers. AmeriKans have no clue this is the second worst month and probably will end up being the WORST since this illegal war began.

Thanks for letting me vent sister. Thank God for my DU pals or I would be insane!

peace,
lc

36. Where are the WMDs? Where was the imminent threat?
Edited on Sat Sep-18-04 02:23 PM by VolcanoJen
What are we fighting for now? Why are our soldiers continuing to die? Where are the flowers and rose petals, thrown at the liberators by the grateful Iraqis? Why does the president insist "Freedom is on the march!"? Why is Armitage so fucking delusional? Does everyone in Washington wear designer rose-colored glasses? Why is Rumsfeld still gainfully employed? Condi? Powell? Wolfowitz?

What is the rationale for continuing to fight in Iraq? Where is the exit plan? How much will it cost? How many more troops will be deployed? What is the goal, exactly? Why isn't the press UP BUSH'S ASS every single fucking day asking these questions???

WHAT HAPPENED TO MY COUNTRY, and why aren't we talking about these issues as part of our national conversation? Why is it that everyone I run into insists things have "quieted down" in Iraq when the TRUTH is so OBVIOUS and CONTRARY to everything we are being told by our "leaders"? Is there ANYTHING more important than the situation on the ground in Iraq? Why doesn't CNN send Anderson Cooper and his fucking raincoat over to Iraq as a "glorious embed" to tell us WHAT THE HELL IS GOING ON?

leftchick, if it weren't for DU, I'd be right next to you in, in five-point restraints. :grr:  :grr: I love ya, sister. :loveya:

Edited on Sat Sep-18-04 07:13 AM by Free2BMe
the number of casualties mounts and with it the news that more reservists are headed to Iraq...not after the election...now..In this AM's Rochester, NY Democrat and Chronicle newspaper(front page headline)...and on the local stations it is reported that the 98th Division of the Army Reserve unit is headed to Irag for probably a year. This unit has not been deployed overseas since WWII according to TV news. Also, two more reserve units will head out in Oct...total 700..this area alone.....and so it goes...

If you are a dead soldier from a free country, you are honored upon your return; although I'm certain it provides cold comfort, at least you receive the thanks of a grateful nation.

A nice way to explain how the War will be won--- somehow since they live there and its Their Country-- I doubt this will happen.

The US will quit when the helicopters take the last of the embassy staff from the roof.

Saigon, before we invaded Iraq, did you ever see this "Vietnam 2 Preflight Check"? Back then, I thought it was dead-on. Today, I think it was slightly optimistic. Still worth a look:

75. Oh, God. Remember when we watched that on TV?
I remember, so stunned, so aghast, horrified, heartbroken. All those deaths, all that suffering, the enormous costs (of all kinds). I was a Vietnam wife. My husband came home in March 1969, but as I watched that scene unfold a BIG part of my gut response was: what the hell was it all for, anyway? What I went through, what we all went through, comes to THIS?

Many, many years later my 2nd husband became friends with a young Vietnamese man through business here in the states. We were at dinner one night and got to talking a little about how he got here. He said he and some of his university student friends had known they needed to leave, and they left everything behind (after paying a pretty fee) to escape via boat. He said they knew that the French, the Canadians and Americans were picking up refugees off the various boats. Naively (even now it brings me to tears to remember just HOW naive I was), I asked him: "What made you decide to come to the United States?" He said, simply, "They were the ones who picked us up." Imagine being in that situation. Imagine coming here with nothing -- no money, no family, no friends here. Happily, by the mid-80s was a successful businessman, a good man and a good friend.

44. He agrees with me. He knows this war is a fucking LIE.....
He is not a delusional bushbot freeper. He knows it is not about Iraq Freedom and Democracy. He KNOWS there is no Iraq/Saddam/9/11/Al-Q connection no matter how many times the RW loons say it. He knows it is not about "our freedoms" (how fucking stupid is that?) He is intelligent and knows when he is being lied to and taken advantage of.

And he saw people like this every day and fucking hated it.....

An Iraqi man carries a wounded boy in a hospital in Fallujah following a US air strike. The US military said it conducted a "successful precision strike" on a meeting of about 10 "terrorists" working for Jordanian-born militant Abu Mussab al-Zarqawi.(AFP/Fares Dlimi)

Now you know why he does not want to go back....

I was tempted to say it for you, but I just knew you'd write a beauty response like that, leftchick.

Black is white, up is down, and the troops don't care about having their limbs blown off and watching innocent children die before their eyes for A MISTAKE. The only thing that matters to the troops is that we respect them when they come home, right? :eyes:

Wrong. We don't even respect them now. The media all but ignores them, we have yet to see flag-draped coffins unless the photos are smuggled out of Dover, and the president insists "Freedom is on the march!!"

God, I'm so sick of this crap, and especially the kind of self-righteous, self-serving preachiness that you were forced to respond to.

Edited on Sat Sep-18-04 03:30 PM by MacDo
In short, I registered on this board yesterday to talk with people who wanted a new President.(Same as me by the way) Call it fate or whatever, the first post I read is from LC and it calls everyone in the military a terrorist.
Now being a military man I log back in today and start reading the list of threads again, and the one you posted Saigon naturally caught my eye. Browsing through it I see LC has posted. Just curious as to what the person who labeled me a terrorist had to say, it was interesting to see she had a cousin returning as well. With that in mind, I knew the last thing he might want to hear is something to the effect of "Welcome home terrorist."

Got one thanks. Thanks for pointing out the free speech thing though. I seem to have forgotten about that. It was just being called a "terrorist" that was a little hard to take. I respect an individual's right to say what they want, but they must respect mine as well. I will not apologize if I took offense to someone's post.

Dozens killed, wounded in US air strike (new overnight Fallujah massacre)

what is the difference between "precision bombings" and "terrorist car bombings"?

Both kill innocent bystanders

None! The US Military is one and the same as the
Terrorists they claim they are fighting.

16. Welcome to DU....
:)

I just don't know how our country can extend "democracy" throughout the world without eventually evoking the draft. The mission of our National Guard and Reserves is not to bolster the whimsically failed agendas of utilizing "police actions" as a substitute for the possible, non-exhausted, and bypassed diplomatic resolutions having been so absent from this administration

6. Over 5,000 serious casualties in Iraq
Edited on Sat Sep-18-04 09:06 AM by teryang
Over 1000 dead and almost 4000 seriously wounded among active duty Americans. Certain categories of casualties aren't even reported, like the psychologically traumatized, they don't exist. The situation is getting worse on a daily basis.

It's fairly evident that this administration is more concerned with its political future than what is happening in Iraq. The destruction of Iraq is an acceptable outcome from their point of view. If they don't literally destroy Iraq and the political power of its indigenous groups, the fourteen military bases the big defense contractors are building will be untenable.

Of course, defense contractors and their shareholders have no problem with the destruction of their output, as long as they get paid. Cash flow increases as they are contracted for the security, tear down, clean up, scuttling, rebuild, whatever, as long as they make money. Anybody in the military for any length of time is familiar with this syndrome. It's all very patriotic. See, I have a picture of a weapon system on my office wall. We're in the loop. Civilian slobs don't understand.

7. CEOs with Cayman Island offices demand US military protection

The following is a full text copy of
a letter sent by Mr Timothy Adam
Chief Executive, Cable & Wireless
(Cayman Islands) Ltd

Wednesday, September 15, 2004
Grand Cayman urgently needs military intervention to restore and to preserve law and order. This needs to happen TODAY.

No doubt US authorities are already aware of the widespread looting that has occurred. I have heard sporadic attempts at looting continue to occur. I got caught in traffic right beside a site where police had shot several times at a looter and had detained him, and there was a near riot - a very volatile situation to which police responded promptly with heavy assault weapon teams.

Last night there was a prison riot at HMP Northward in which a number of prisoners escaped. A prison guard was injured (I have heard it was not fatal) and a fire was started in the prison. ALL the island's law enforcement agencies had to be diverted to deal with this. The situation has been calmed down but it is still volatile, the police have had to go back there in force subsequent to the initial incident being calmed, and there now remains a serious weakness in the security force because a lot of the police and Special Constables are now diverted to handle the situation. Worse yet, there is a convicted rapist and a convicted murderer on the loose. Police have now been diverted from their already seriously stretched law and order duties to search for these dangerous criminals under difficult circumstances. The island's power supply has not been turned back on yet and even when it is, most of the electricity poles on the island have been broken, even huge concrete poles snapped, and there are NO streetlights ANYWHERE on the island. Police are operating in total darkness.

As in once the Bomb goes off these hoodlums shoot at anything that moves and KILL IT

At $1,500.00 per day these mercenaries better save their cash--- I have a feeling that once Kerry wins the Gravy Train for them, will be over.

May be then we can use the money, to feed hungry children, rather than the egos and bank accounts of these Thugs and Hoodlums.

A M-16 A4 short carbine with a telescoping stock with at least a dozen 30 round magazines in a vest.

A 41 Cal or better Glock or some other semi auto pistol with AT LEAST 6 15 round mags strapped to their leg with some type of Bianchi web holster and extender.

and a concealed compact 45 cal auto ON THEIR ANKLE OR IN A HOLSTER ON THE INSIDE OF THE VEST OR WAIST.

They are real RAMBOS

The truth will trickle out bit by bit

At some time though one has to question Why anyone would join the military right NOW?

In my day there was the Draft which compelled people to participate-- although guys like Muhammad Ali stood up and refused, while others like THE AWOL CHIMPANZEE and CHICKEN HAWK CHENEY dodged the draft

A POEM THAT I WROTE IN A HIGH FEVER

You who are lengthening your lives
with the best doctors and the best medicines
remember those who are shortening their lives
with the wars
that you in your long lives are not
preventing.

You who are again screwing
the younger generations
and winking at each other
the winking of your eyelids
is like the chill of the swinging shutters
in an empty house.

The military as usual--- is saying nothing. Without a free press there --- and only a 1950's muzzled Russian type American Press, in Baghdad its hard to figure what is going on---

unless you want to know all about the developments in the Scott Peterson or weird Jackson cases today.

59. *sigh*
Something is really amiss in our country. I know this to be true because,...national mourning of such loss of life is prohibited via mandatory scrubbing by our government.

I'm not sure which disturbs me most: the lives of those who had no choice but to give them or the indifference by those who chose their destinies.

Those that have both want to hold on to both.

Look at the BUSH CRIMINALS AND THE NEOCONS--- they are drunk on power and all are millionaires. They need a pacified majority of Sheep to ratify their ruling mandate.

And long as the Sheep have enough to eat and a Circus (Read NECKCAR) to watch once in a while,

They'll gladly let their neighbors kid get killed for Halliburton Profits.

62. I see we have a Freeper in this thread.
The mods seem to be stumbling with regard to disruptors - a number of them are racking up a good number of posts on the boards.

I guess the disruptors are getting slightly clever. Amazing - I thought Freepers were too stupid to count to ten without taking off their shoes, yet they manage to fly under the radar sometimes.

Keep reaching, Freepers! You may grasp simple shapes and colors yet!
