Latest trendy vehicle does 7 miles to gallon
The Independent
By Jonathan Este
18 September 2004

Snip

With oil prices hitting new highs each week, the idea of introducing a new vehicle which does seven miles to the gallon of diesel would appear to be folly. But that hasn't stopped Texas-based International Truck from wheeling out its CXT, which makes Arnold Schwarzenegger's Hummer seem positively eco-friendly.

The CXT is as long as a London bus and seats five. International Truck says that at a retail price of $93,000 (£52,000) it is perfect for a range of businesses in the construction and landscaping field. It believes they can benefit from the 220hp with 540lb-ft of torque delivered by the CXT.

The Hummer, previously the most environmentally hostile private car, as modelled by the recently elected Governor of California, does 10 miles to the gallon. The price of oil in the US rose 66 cents yesterday to $44.50 a barrel.

Isn't seven miles per gallon about the same that Junior's armoured PrezMobile does? Seem to remember Londoners getting upset about it when he came for his State Visit last year....

3. i know you didn't write the headline, but "trendy"?
has anyone seen rows of these things outside country clubs? clogging up city traffic yet? yes these are big obnoxious trucks, but i doubt they will be "trendy", as in popular.the people that buy these things are going to be people that tow big loads, horse trailers, car trailers, campers etc. these trucks were available to the general public before only without the pickup bed, in configurations for trailer towing. anybody who wanted one could just stroll on down to their local international dealer and order one up, and have it custom built to your specs, try that at the local Cadillac dealer lately? i will eat my own feces if anyone proves these things to show up on every suburban block. i'd bet a few hundred get sold, at best in the neighborhood of a few thousand. they are expensive, they don't lease these things for a couple huundred a month like suv's. the people that make the commitment to a truck like this know what they are getting themselves into.

and IF someone is going to be towing a 20,000lb trailer, i'd just as soon have them towing it with a truck of proper capacity.

i hate suv's and big obnoxious trucks driven by idiots as much as the next guy, but i just don't see these trucks being a big(no pun inteneded) problem. people's anger would be much better directed at the humdreds of thousands of suv's than the few of these trucks.

5. Limited Build
I hear 50 or so. It looks like a towing rig. Horse people may use it. It is a dually and from driving a f-250 I can attest to the pain involved in parking and maneuvering in the city. As well as the stringent maintenance schedule.

I tow equipment and constantly see people overloading suv and light trucks. Usually with boats. This is a deadly practice.

The majority of SUV drivers have no real use for the vehicle. A f-150 crew cab is far more versatile than a Tahoe.

6. A vehicle that begs to be vandalized.
I'm not encouraging it. I'm just saying, is all.
