Saddam could go on trial as early as October
http://story.news.yahoo.com/news?tmpl=story&u=/afp/20040918/wl_mideast_afp/us_iraq_allawi_saddam&cid=1514&ncid=1480

WASHINGTON (AFP) - Ex-Iraqi dictator Saddam Hussein, charged with crimes against humanity, could go to trial before the Iraqi Special Tribunal (IST) as early as next month, Iraqi Prime Minister Iyad Allawi says in an interview to be aired on Sunday.

"Roughly, I think October," Allawi said in the ABC interview, a transcript of which was given to AFP.

He went on to say that Saddam supporters similarly charged would also be on trial when the IST convenes.

"Maybe he will appear in November or December, but definitely in October the whole issue will start," he said.

3. It could backfire
Putting Saddam on the witness stand, which the defense will definitely do, could be Rove's worst nightmare. All Saddam has to say is where he got his WMDs from and the nightly news will start running pictures of Rumsfeld shaking his hand over and over.

4. Allawi: I don't think it will take a long time...
because the evidence against him is ... overwhelming.
So we hope justice will be served."

So an Allawi (and U.S.) backed kangaroo court
hands down a preordained verdict and sentence.
All this before establishing a government
or even a law code ratified by the Iraqi people.
When they hang Saddam, they will make him a martyr.

5. Rove probably wants to keep the 'evildoer' Saddam in the news as
much as possible. I'm sure he has lots of October goodies in his bag of surprises. I truly believe he's behind the CBS memo nonsense. It has his 'finger prints' all over it. Especially given the speed that the non-specialist 'B(f)uckhead was onto the typographical problems. Of course, the stupid American media follow the memo forgery story -- and fail to see the real story of AWOL's dereliction of duty. Got to admit, Rove is a master magician!!

7. Can't wait to watch van Susteren and Calson
argue about the shoes he's wearing and how they match his suit. "Do you think he'll act all drugged out again today, Tucker?"

"We'll have to wait and see if the Butcher of Baghdad is wearing an Armani suit, Greta. Journalism is hard."

"You're right, Tucker."

that Tariq Aziz has agreed to testify against Saddan to get a reduced sentence himself. That would be a big deal if it happens.
