Protesters gather outside O'Neill house
Edited on Sat Sep-18-04 04:45 PM by kskiska
About 15 protesters gathered for two hours today outside the home of John O'Neill, a Houston attorney who co-wrote "Unfit for Command," a new book that questions Democratic presidential nominee John Kerry's military service.

"Who in their right mind would attack a veteran who actually volunteered to go to Vietnam?" protester John Cobarruvias asked. "Attacking a veteran who went to war, who got shot at, is wrong."

O'Neill wasn't home Saturday because his daughter was getting married. In a statement, he said he thought it would have been more appropriate for protesters "to read the book and then engage in a civil debate over its contents."

(snip)

The protesters chanted and carried signs reading "Not so swift liar lives here" and "AWOL liar Bush attacks veterans." They referred to the controversy over the Swift Boat Veterans for Truth's television ad criticizing Kerry's military record and the questions about President Bush's time in the National Guard.

3. he said he thought it would have been more appropriate for protesters "to

It might have been more appropriate to honor a veteran's service than to belittle his contributions to our country, not only with that service, but with his questioning of the APPROPRIATENESS of the war he volunteered to fight.

Yes. This guy can tell me what's "appropriate." Right.

4. The statement by O'Neill says
"It is our experience that protests and book burnings occur not against books that are false, but against books that are true,"

This then proves that the * guard memos are true, Kitty Kelly's book is true, and every other book or article protested by Repubs is true!

Thanks, you swift jerk off!

And Al Franken's. And Joe Wilson's.

Man, the fun NEVER ends when you take that guy's comment to its logical extreme.

10. That's a repulsive comment. I find O'Neill disgusting but ...
... extrajudicial execution is a graver wrong than slander.

It makes the demonstrators look evil.

22. 'cause it targets a "perception" rather than a "populace's interest"?
Edited on Sat Sep-18-04 06:54 PM by Just Me
Just offering a suggestion as to why it's okay to manipulate a populatice rather than protest a person who manipulates that populace.

But,...what the hell do I know,...being "Just Me"?

17. What?

You mean like all those Republicans did with Fahrenheit 9/11? Surely they all watched the movie and initiated a civil debate about it, right?

Why is our side always expected to be nice, civil and temperate, while their side is free to use whatever tactics they feel are necessary?

19. O'Neil is a slick piece of crap...
He says, ""to read the book and then engage in a civil debate over its contents."

No! Let's read the book and engage over the motives of the person that wrote the fucking book ! We've had enough civil debate over its contents already. Now we need to know why this slimy right-winger has been pursuing Kerry since the days he was holding hands with Nixon.
