Kerry says he's in a fighting mood leading into campaign's final six weeks

NEDRA PICKLER, Associated Press Writer
Saturday, September 18, 2004

(09-18) 18:59 PDT BOSTON (AP) --

Democrat John Kerry reminded his hometown supporters at a $3 million fund-raiser Saturday night that he's come from behind to win elections before.

"Let me tell you something, these folks have got me in fighting mood," Kerry said of rival President Bush's campaign. "When I get in a fighting mood towards the end of September and towards the beginning of October, I think you know what happens here in Massachusetts."

The crowd of donors, which included Democrats from the state's congressional delegation and other statewide elected officials, rose to its feet cheering, with several people pumping their fists in the air boxer-style.

"I feel those October juices flowing," Kerry said. "And I've been at this for a while and when those juices get flowing, I feel good. Let me tell you, we feel it happening."

3. "We feel it happening."
NO, we don't! That's the problem.

When you are going up against the Bush* clan, you need to be in a fighting mood from the get-go. Not starting at the end of September.

4. What is his "fighting mood" like?
Does anyone know? I'll be glad when he starts; I'll be there to wipe his brow and hand him a glass of water.

8. Just remember
He won the primaries... he was losing before.

Oh my gosh, it is raining outside, it is pouring... when it rains in Arizona.... it is a gift. Maybe this is a positive sign while being on DU.

You go Kerry!

Kerry is good, he fights for his beliefs... he will fight for all America. He is a leader. But, I know what he is going through, so difficult to fight the opposition, believe me. KERRY HAS COURAGE!

Just remember it is easy to be a Monday morning quarterback!

We can win and we will win!

YOU GO KERRY!

11. he'd better bring out the vicious pit bulls
before I am convinced he's fighting and continues to fight.
The vicious animals go for the jugular and don't let go. Kerry has to use this approach

14. John, if you want to win, get Bartcop on your team.
And remember- it's an unfair fight. You'll have to outsmart the executives at GE if you want coverage.

Good luck.

15. When he did the "fantasyland-spin" thing at the Vets Convention,
that was great...The "excuses President" was great....

How about we hear that EVERY DAY?? Consistently!!! After a couple of great soundbites.....zip. It's those soundbites that will get him 1)national coverage and 2) help counter that "not as strong" perception.

By the way, how long do we have to wait until this bit about Cleland the Kerry campaign being offered info by that ex-marine about Bush's records?
When do we shut that down?????????????? No more waiting for days, all you new media aces.....

18. You do hear speeches
like that everyday. He gives them at every stop he makes. My daughter was thrilled. However, you do not see them on television or in the newspapers because they pick out only the generic to report. I do not know how to overcome that little fact. It is not a reflection on how well he is doing. It is how an example of how hard this election is for Democrats.

21. And his speaking style doesn't help
The man is literate and speaks in complete sentences. He doesn't send smoke signals with mangles syntax and primate body language. Recent themes have been great. Clearly he does need to attack Bush's perceived strength - terra and Iraq and expose the hollowness within. That's a tough and complex task to try and do in TV sound bytes.

20. His record as a closer is well known
Even when it looked hopeless he has always managed to pull it out and win. When he ran against Weld he was counted out by every newspaper in Mass-sound familar? Already you can see the gap narrowing in several polls.
