Allawi Says Rebels Growing Desperate
http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/articles/A32044-2004Sep18.html

By Robin Wright
Washington Post Staff Writer
Sunday, September 19, 2004; Page A32

On the eve of his first visit to the United States, Iraq's interim prime minister, Ayad Allawi, denied yesterday that the insurgency battling U.S.-led troops and Iraqi forces was gaining momentum or spreading, despite the escalating violence and death toll.

"It's not getting stronger; it's getting more desperate. We are squeezing out the insurgency," he said in an interview to be aired today on ABC's "This Week." Allawi called the attacks, which now number in the dozens each day, the insurgents' "last stand, so they are putting a very severe fight on Iraq. We are winning." The prime minister cited recent progress in reducing the violence several cities.

Allawi refuted a National Intelligence Council estimate portraying the possibility of civil war, noting that the Shiite, Sunni and Kurdish populations were not targeting one another and that members of all three groups were working in the three-month-old interim government. The fighting is ideological, not based on ethnic or religious differences, he said.

10. Allawi has learned the Bush Twist-and-Turn technique.
Under the Bush Twist-and-Turn technique that part of reality which does not favor the Bushes can be displaced/projected unto the other side leaving it clear for Bush to stake delusional claims about reality as he would like it to be.

Allawi has learned the Bush Twist-and-Turn technique.

12. He kinda got one part right
Allawi refuted a National Intelligence Council estimate portraying the possibility of civil war, noting that the Shiite, Sunni and Kurdish populations were not targeting one another....Blah, blah, blah

He's just neglected to say the groups are too busy fighting American troops to turn on each other.

20. BRING IT ON.
Black Knight: None shall pass.
Arthur: What?
Black Knight: None shall pass.
Arthur: I have no quarrel with you, good Sir Knight, but I must cross this bridge.
Black Knight: Then you shall die.
Arthur: I command you as King of the Britons to stand aside!
Black Knight: I move for no man.
Arthur: So be it!

Arthur cuts off the Black Knight's left arm.

Arthur: Now stand aside, worthy adversary.
Black Knight: 'Tis but a scratch.
Arthur: A scratch? Your arm's off!
Black Knight: No, it isn't.
Arthur: Well, what's that then?
Black Knight: I've had worse.
Arthur: You liar!
Black Knight: Come on you pansy!

Arthur cuts off the Black Knight's right arm.

Arthur: Victory is mine! We thank thee Lord, that in thy mercy...

Black Knight: Come on then.
Arthur: What?
Black Knight: Have at you!
Arthur: You are indeed brave, Sir Knight, but the fight is mine.
Black Knight: Oh, had enough, eh?
Arthur: Look, you stupid bastard, you've got no arms left.
Black Knight: Yes I have.
Arthur: Look!
Black Knight: Just a flesh wound.
Arthur: Look, stop that.
Black Knight: Chicken! Chicken!
Arthur: Look, I'll have your leg. Right!

Arthur cuts off the Black Knight's leg.

Black Knight: Right, I'll do you for that!
Arthur: You'll what?
Black Knight: Come 'ere!
Arthur: What are you going to do, bleed on me?
Black Knight: I'm invincible!
Arthur: You're a loony.
Black Knight: The Black Knight always triumphs! Have at you! Come on then.

Arthur cuts off the Black Knight's other leg.

Black Knight: All right; we'll call it a draw.
Arthur: Come, Patsy.
Black Knight: Oh, oh, I see, running away then. You yellow bastard! Come back here and take what's coming to you. I'll bite your legs off!

MISSION ACCOMPLISHED.

23. analyzing his sentence, "it's not getting stronger,
it's getting more desperate". Notice, here Allow-Me is referring to an emotion. First, he mentions the strength of the resistance, which is in fact increasing. Next, he refers to desperation.

But whether or not the insurgents are desperate or confident, it's still increasing. So he's not really refuting the facts, he's just changing their color.

And again, it doesn't matter what he says because the Iraqis don't recognize him as their leader. He's just holed up in one of Saddam's palaces and surrounded by 1,000 bodyguards wherever he goes. He just replaced L. Paul Bremer, that's all.
