3 Dead, 7 Hurt in Iraq Suicide Car Blast (1 US Troop dead)

SAMARRA, Iraq Sept. 19, 2004 ? A suicide attacker detonated a car bomb Sunday near a joint U.S.-Iraqi checkpoint, killing three people and wounding seven, including four U.S. soldiers in the northern city of Samarra, the military said.

It was the first significant attack in Samarra since U.S. troops moved back into the city earlier this month, claiming a success over insurgents who had made it a virtual "no-go" zone since May

The dead in Sunday's attack included an Iraqi soldier, a civilian and the suicide bomber, said Maj. Neal O'Brien of the Army's 1st Infantry Division
