Keillor Hits Campaign Trail For Democrats
Sep 19, 2004 9:47 am US/Central
Austin, Minn. (AP) Garrison Keillor has turned into an above-average fundraiser for Democrats.

DFL officials said Keillor has raised more than $250,000 through personal appearances on behalf of candidates, along with generating plenty of excitement and enthusiasm for the party.

"This election is for the soul of our country," Keillor told an Austin audience of 350 during a recent fundraiser for DFLer Leigh Pomeroy, who is in an uphill battle to unseat 1st District Rep. Gil Gutknecht in southern Minnesota.

Pomeroy has taken plenty of dusty road trips in the family minivan, spent hot afternoons working small-town parades and long hours on the phone drumming up support. But last week at Austin's Paramount Theater, Pomeroy played to a packed house, pulled in $13,000 in contributions and basked in the media spotlight, all thanks to Keillor and his "Prairie Home Companion" radio fame. The fundraising is a followup to the release of Keillor's defiantly partisan book "Homegrown Democrat."

1. Keillor is an incredible asset for the dems. I wish he had started earlier
but just to see him on the road supporting Kerry/Edwards is heartening. He has that 'small town' appeal, one that says trust me, I'm in touch with America and what made it the great country that is was. (I used the term was because bush* is reducing us to a second rate over stretched country run by corporate America.)

Too bad that the idiots who support the bush* cabal are so obtuse that they refuse to listen to people like Keillor who rationally and intelligently discuss the problems facing this country, and who make the perfect case as to why the current administration is a danger to America and what is good and right with this country.

bush* supporters are the perfect example of that old adage 'ignorace is bliss'.

4. Homegrown Democrat - chapters 1 - 4 online
From the Desk of Garrison Keillor

In a book that is at once deeply personal and intellectually savvy, "Homegrown Democrat" is a celebration of liberalism as the "politics of kindness." In his inimitable style, Keillor draws on a lifetime of experience amongst the hardworking, God-fearing people of the Midwest and pays homage to the common code of civic necessities that arose from the left:

* Protect the social compact.
* Defend the powerless.
* Maintain government as a necessary force for good.

3. Check out what the stupid, dumb local pig said
"His tone has become very vitriolic and very partisan," said Randy Wanke, spokesman for the Republican Party of Minnesota.

So Wanke - you fuckface - are going to tell Minnesotans to stop listening to that fat pig Limbaugh!
