SADDAM: VOTE ME IN AS YOUR PRESIDENT

SADDAM Hussein is planning to stand in elections to reclaim the Iraqi presidency from his jail cell.

The former tyrant - captured in an underground bunker last year - has told advisers that he wants his name on the ballot paper for the January elections.

...

Hussein, 67, who is no longer in Iraq but in a secret location, has said he is determined to stand as President and put up candidates from his old Ba'ath Party. His lawyer Giovanni di Stefano said there was no chance of his client being tried before the January elections as the Interim Government had hoped.

"It is the intention of his excellency President Saddam Hussein not only to candidate members of the Ba'ath Party in the January elections but to candidate himself as President. Nothing in international law or international jurisprudence precludes that.

4. I will support Nader for President of Iraq
Even campaign for him, if he promises to withdraw from the US presidential race and endorse John Kerry.

2. The perfect write-in candidate
I expect he'd do pretty well with the Sunni voters. Not so much with the Kurds and Shia.

7. It's unlikely that he'll still be alive by then
Elections are scheduled for January, right? His trial is supposed to begin next month. It could drag on, but I think it's more likely he'll be quickly found guilty and executed, well before the end of the year.

8. Assuming they do start the trial on schedule
I missed the part about his lawyer saying the trial wouldn't have started by then.

But if there seemed to be any chance of Saddam winning the election, our puppets would find a way to take care of the problem quickly.

Even that's assuming the votes would be fairly counted and the results honestly announced.

9. Little Cowboy bush needs a real a$$kicking Bad Guy...
to get Iraq going again. That would be laughable. Iraqis constantly say that their lives where much better under Saddam.

11. I would imagine most Iraqis would want his rule back given the shit they
have to suffer through now. This would be so good for the arrogance of Americans....thinking they can interfere where they were not asked to intervene.

12. It'll never happen
If the Bushistas can pull of voter fraud here, they could easily do it in Iraq where they can ensure there won't be nearly as much scrutiny.
