Bush failing to admit Iraq's worsening situation: Washington Post
http://story.news.yahoo.com/news?tmpl=story&u=/afp/20040919/pl_afp/us_iraq_bush_press&cid=1521&ncid=1473

WASHINGTON (AFP) - President George W. Bush (news - web sites)'s description of recent events in Iraq (news - web sites) is "bland to the point of dishonesty," the Washington Post charged, in a blistering editorial accusing the president of failing to admit the worsening situation in Iraq.

"His description of Iraq is bland to the point of dishonesty," the leading daily wrote, noting that Bush said Friday that, "despite ongoing acts of violence," Iraq has a strong prime minister, a national council and that it will hold elections in January.

"Not only has Mr. Bush not said how, or whether, he intends to respond to the worsening situation -- he doesn't really admit it exists," the Post said.

"This duck-and-cover strategy may have its political advantages, but it is also deeply irresponsible and potentially dangerous," the Post wrote.

1. keep this going!
This is a superb article! We need to get this message out - that Bush's plan in Iraq is failing, and we need John Kerry to fix things.

3. of course, they CANT....especially this week
this week will be an ALL OUT propaganda blitz, designed to fool the dullards in the mainstream media consuming target audience that all's well and swell in Iraq and Afghanistan, therfore in the war on terra tactique.

they've got Allawi coming; dumbo is speaking at the UN. it's all been planned in advance to go crazy this week, in order to camouflage what a total HELL Iraq has become. It's going to be very interesting to see if the media falls into line as ABJECTLY as they did during the run up to the invasion.

anybody think they won't? I sure hope CBS, given the impetus of widespread contumely and attack from all sides, realizes that it would be in their best interest to remain standing, alone, and start reporting the reality of the situation, instead of regurgitating WH talking points and press releases, as all MSM outlets have done regarding the invasion and its aftermath

not holding breath, though

9. I hope it's printed on super-absorbent 2-ply
From "Rambling's Journal," June 28, 2004:

http://mhking.mu.nu/archives/033725.php

"Let Freedom Reign!"
Iraq is now sovereign. By now, you know all the details, but here's how President Bush found out -- while seated next to British PM Tony Blair at the NATO meetings this morning."

17. "Sovereign"...
If that's sovereign, boy, I'd like to know what *'s definition of "sovereignty" is.

Oh wait, maybe this will give me a clue...

"Tribal sovereignty means that, it's sovereign. You're a — you've been given sovereignty, and you're viewed as a sovereign entity. And, therefore, the relationship between the federal government and tribes is one between sovereign entities." — Washington, D.C., Aug. 6, 2004

Or maybe not.

13. Let freedom rain
From the following article:
http://www.tomifobia.com/austin/let_freedomrain.shtml

So George Dubya is sitting in a meeting in Istanbul last Monday when he gets a note from Condi Rice that says "Iraq is sovereign.". This note was referring to the transfer of power from the United States of America to our brand new hand-picked Iraqi leadership.

Dubya scribbled a phrase on the note, "Let Freedom Reign!" and then shook hands with Tony Blair, his only real ally. I have seen this little farce several times on the tube. The note was even featured on the front page of the NY Times.

Did it seem a little staged to you? Didn't it have a little "Give me Liberty or give me death" quality about it?

OK, here's why it could not have happened: First, there is no way in the world that a C-student from Crawford ,Texas, could extemporaneously come up with the phrase "Let Freedom Reign!" Even if he could there is no way George could spell reign. Or know what "sovereign" means for that matter.

Had this note been handed to George without the rehearsal here is what he might have said:

What's a sovereign?

I'll have the veal.

Iraq is what now?

I thought it was "I" before "E" except after "C".

Hang on I'm just about finished with My Pet Goat.

If Cheney had received the note he might have said "about f***ing time". Big Dick has been a very nasty VP lately. In case you missed it, he told our own distinguished Senator Patrick Leahy to "go*** yourself."

29. The most idiotic statement of the year
When a power or entity reigns, it rules with unquestioned authority. How the fuck can decentralization and liberty somehow consolidate and enslave?

Besides the fact that it's an idiotic misquote of "let freedom ring" from a patriotic song, it's clunky, oxymoronic and just plain moronic.

Only minds like this can come up with things like "Freedom is on the March". Yep, freedom's on the march, crushing and killing everything in its way, and you can hear the goosestepping jackbooted phalanx from here.

Every bit of imagery these thugs come up with is expressed in violence and subjugation. Everything's a war on this and a crusade against that. Bow down in awe at their oh-so-big power, peon, and submit while you can.

The simps who find this appealing are loathesome in their hero-worship of brutes, and the whole thing just reeks of some kind of sadistic sports team affiliation. Barf-o-matic.

8. I loved this part!
The Post said Bush's record is "one of courage in setting goals and steadfastness in sticking to them but also one of extraordinary recklessness and incompetence in execution."

That pretty much sums it up for me.

33. I disagree
The fact that Bush can't openly admit that he is making mistakes and "stays the course" is evident in that statement.

This week will be a test for that outlook. When he has to go to the UN to ask for help with the security of these countries for their elections, he will have to either humble himself, or he will have to "stay the course" of all the speeches he has been giving about his choice of seeking world opinion and support for his actions.

This is where the rubber meets the road. If he thumbs his nose and things go south for those elections, then the world will hang that defeat squarely on him. If he changes course and actually admits that he needs their help, then he has blown his "steadfast and courageous" moniker.

Either way, that statement pretty much sums up his "policy" for me. Even when he is wrong, he can't adjust his course.

At least that's how I read it.

One main policy difference between Kerry and Bush on Iraq is that from day one President Kerry will be HONEST with the American people regarding the Iraq catastrophe.

which seems to be a word avoided by all the media. Dishonesty is still kind but closest to liar that I have seen so far. I will say that "potentially dangerous" is a little bland. It is already dangerous.

20. Ah, yes. The WarMonger WaPo doesn't like how the emporer
has gone about the imperial plan for the mideast, thinking it could have been done with more violence and bombs to more perfectly oppress the Iraqi people.

WaPo makes me fucking sick. This is just a prelude to the obliteration of Iraq and WaPo is tuning up Rove's Great Wurlitzer to get the nationalistic juices churning.

After the bloodbath, the headline will be: "LordGodBush carries through on steadfast plan to finish the conquest of M.E. All Praise Bush"..

He's lived an insulated fantasy life. He never grew up. He can't even address a public audience. It has to be privately screened with loyalty oaths so that reality doesn't invade his bubble. The last person I know of to use loyalty oaths was Adolph Hitler.
