Edwards Calls Hastert's Remarks 'Politics of Fear'
PHOENIXVILLE, Pa., Sept. 19 -- Democratic vice presidential candidate John Edwards on Sunday accused House Speaker J. Dennis Hastert (R-Ill.) of stooping "to the politics of fear" when he said al Qaeda terrorists may launch another terrorist attack to swing the Nov. 2 election in Democrat John F. Kerry's favor.

Hastert's comments, at a fundraiser Saturday night in his home state of Illinois, were reminiscent of recent remarks by Vice President Cheney that Edwards has called "un-American."

Cheney, campaigning for President Bush's reelection, recently told supporters that terrorists will strike again "if we make the wrong choice" on Election Day. He clarified the remarks in an interview two days later.

Edwards said Hastert had joined the "fear-mongering choir."

"One clear sign of weakness and failed leadership is when a politician stoops to the politics of fear," he said, campaigning near Philadelphia. "Last night, he said something to the effect that al Qaeda wants John Kerry to be president of the United States.

"Let me say this in the simplest possible terms: When John Kerry is president of the United States, we will find al Qaeda where they are and crush them before they can do damage to the American people," Edwards said.

2. Of course he's right
but the problem is that the politics of fear works and the repugs know that, which is why they use it so effectively.

I do wish we would see more of Edwards. The broadcast media seem to have forgotten that he exists.

3. Denny has had his head held in a headlock to long
This guy is a joke how he ever rose to Speaker of the House can only be explained by a Republican. It must be because he reads the script well.

4. Ah, I get it.
When Cheney said it, it could have potentially affected Bush.

So they brought out Dennis "The Menace" Hastert to say it for him. Does anyone really care was that idiot thinks?

8. if bush had wanted al qaeda to stop terror attacks on Americans, he would
have stayed in Afghanistan and finished the job right. instead, he had to get his war on.

they have to bring this up every time the terror attacks are brought up.

9. Edwards Calls Hastert a "Dirty Lying Red Communist Storm Trooper"
that's what Edwards and Kerry should be saying. These nice words being used for one are NOT the truth so why use them? And I've been taught in life, just tell the truth and everything will work out. Obama also said this at the convention in an interview. Why doesn't Edwards in the same sentence bring up Hastert's dirty immoral attack on Soros. Call Hastert a dirty evil disciple of Satan. Why do Dems only and always play defense? It just doesn't work because the damage is already done. Go after the dirty immoral repuke leadership and aWol with every dirty truth and yell it loudly!

I called an old friend living in Ohio. I don't talk Pol. with friends but she brought it up. "What do you think of the war in Iraq?" So I gave it to here striaght and factual. He response was, "But what about Saddam attacking and destroying the NY World Trade Centers?" I said you're joking arent' you? She was very serious and said she never heard anyone say that Saddam did NOT attack the WTC and many are saying he did.
