BAGHDAD: A grisly video surfaced yesterday showing militants sawing off the heads of three Iraqi members of a Kurdish party for co-operating with American forces.
In a sign of continuing instability, a suicide car bomb killed three people in the northern city of Samarra, where US and Iraqi commanders had been claiming some success against militants.
Britain joined Iraq's US-backed government yesterday in facing down a chilling ultimatum to execute a British and two American hostages.
Loyalists of Iraq's most wanted man, suspected Al Qaeda operative Abu Mussab Al Zarqawi, have reportedly served London and Washington with a 48-hour deadline to release Iraqi women from two prisons or see the hostages executed.
The ultimatum is expected to expire today.
In a videotape broadcast by Al Jazeera, Zarqawi militants said their captives would be executed within 48 hours unless their governments bowed to their demands to release Iraqi women prisoners.
