Bush is addressing the General Assembly of the UN on Tuesday..
I hope he is met with dead silence. In the CNN article about the comments Senators made on the Sunday morning talk shows, which is being discussed in another thread,Joe Biden is quoted as saying:

"The president's going to the United Nations ," he said. "You know what we list as our priorities for the United Nations General Assembly? Dealing with sex trade, which is important. Dealing with cloning. Dealing with spread of democracy.

"Not one word of Korea. Not one word with regard to Iraq. Not one word with regard to Iran. It's like Wonderland," said Biden, the ranking Democrat on the Senate Foreign Relations Committee."

(This is the article in the other thread - it isn't specifically abt the UN speech, but it is where Biden is quoted.)

As an aside, I live a mile due South of the UN. Please hope that no one has planned a September surprise for the General Assembly. I think it's the only area of NYC which I get nervous walking by these days.

4. I think he's doing it because he's trotting out his election year....
...."dog and pony" act.

For the next several months we'll see the "Great Uniter" and the "Compassionate Conservative" again.

I think He'll be largly ingored at the UN but his own party members and campaigners will try to make big about it.

"WoW...What a statesman" (Roll eyes)

10. It's a normally scheduled meeting..
of the entire General Assembly and I believe that the Pres of the US virtually always gives a speech, so in that sense it isn't unusual. (He addressed the same meeting post-9-11 on terrorism.) Ignoring Iraq et al is of course another matter.

(I believe that the child sex trade crimes is the focus of a UN initiative this year, so that at least is in some context.)

Too bad that the UN doesn't have an on-site military squad. Given that Annan has said that he believes the Iraq invasion was illegal under international law, he could have Bush arrested on the premises. (Wishful thinking..) Technically speaking, their grounds are not considered US territory.

2. Maybe they'll stand up and turn their backs on him
I wish they would.

This man does NOT represent the United States of America. He's never been anything but an ego trip for himself.

5. Hmmmm......
"The president's going to the United Nations ," he said. "You know what we list as our priorities for the United Nations General Assembly? Dealing with sex trade, which is important. Dealing with cloning. Dealing with spread of democracy.

If Bush were to talk about his 'accomplishments'/agenda on these things:

Sex trade - "I've got my brother Neil doing up close and personal research on this issue - awaiting his report back to me"

Cloning - "must confuse people that 'stem-cell research' has to do with cloning" (which it doesn't)

Spread of (true) democracy - well, a nation can achieve a LOT by claiming something it will never allow to happen (see example here: America liberating Iraq)

7. Bush Does Not Represent Americans
He represents corporate globalists which have taken advantage of low income populations globally to insure profits to the rich. Including America.

13. just my 2-cents
whether or not bush* specifically asks for assistance from the UN for Iraq -- I don't see any UN help on the way as long as bush* has his butt planted in the oval office

bush* is in trouble over Iraq and his blind rush to war -- UN assistance would help him

However, he has spit on the UN in previous appearances -- this is probably just a 'photo-op' for bush* so he can say "see I went to the UN and they refused"

At best I can see the UN holding off on any decision until after our elections -- if bush* gets in then the UN will probably tell him "you broke it you fix it"

If Kerry wins - we'll see the UN in Iraq after the inauguration
