Obama Leading Keyes by 45 Points in Senate Race
http://www.wifr.com/home/headlines/1034021.html

The poll commissioned by the St. Louis Post-Dispatch/KMOV-TV shows Obama leading the race with 68 percent to Keyes' 23 percent. Nine percent were undecided.

Officials at the firm that conducted the poll say they can't remember the last time there was a gap like that between two newcomers.

Obama is an Illinois state senator from Chicago. Keyes is a conservative political commentator and two-time presidential candidate from Maryland.

...a bit more...

2. It's a nail biter all right.
ha ha.

Al Franken was trying to talk Obama into stepping over the state line into swing states to help Kerry. Obama said he needs to keep working on his race, but if the Kerry people call, he will go.

It's funny to hear Obama act like there's still a race going on there. Classy guy.

4. The truth is that Obama HAS been traveling
Edited on Mon Sep-20-04 02:40 PM by chiburb
Extensively outside Illinois. He just doesn't advertise it, and that's gotten him some negative pub.
Obviously, hasn't hurt him here...

3. Gallup has Keyes up by 18
They think Black conservatives make up 40% of the electorate.

Just kidding.

I think.

5. Shame on you, Obama, LOL!
A forty-five percent lead and nine per cent AND nine per cent undecided? DISGRACEFUL! Against Keyes, your lead should be be EIGHTY-five percent with ZERO undecided! You'd better get off your butt, open your campaign chest, and get to work before it's too late, you goldbricker!

6. It was originally about 40%, as I recall
I would have thought it would widen more than this after Keyes started opening his mouth.

7. That Keyes draws 23% frightens me
and helps explain why we are morally deficient enough as a country to allow Bush* to run the helm of this Country.

8. Just saw some friends from Arlington Heights
and they have neighbors with a Keyes sign! First I ever heard of it. They are single issue voters: antiabortion. My friend says that a lawncare company delivered some mulch to these folks and dumped it all over the sign; hee hee, probably intentionally.

17. Mulch Ado-do about nothing
With apologies.

The most significant thing is the wide discrepancy between Gallup and reality. Should compare other rather predictable races across the board and see what GOP pump up factor really is. It seems to be about three times the gap of other polls.

21. Arlington Heights is full of neo-cons (especially Terramere)
There are, of course, some great liberal minds here (myself included), but the bastion of liberal thought around here is in Buffalo Grove. Even the upper-class areas of BG are pretty much good guys.

9. How surprising
When you consider, as Keyes reminded us, Christ would not vote for Obama!!

Jeez, don't those 68% know they're going to HELL ??!!

They don't give a damn now, and probably won't manage to make it to the polls in November.

18. ON WBEZ today they had an ...interesting interview with both
Obama and Keyes. The link is not up yet... But the questions were trying to get to immigration policy. Keyes answered the first one and vigorously insisted the rest of the questions were the same a s the first. It would be really funny...except that some goofball republicans actually put him on the ballot of Senate.

so i assumed he'd dropped out of the race.

so he's still running around illinois contributing to the destruction of federalism like hillary clinton?

20. If Keyes gets 25% in Illinois, I'll eat my shoe.
Great quote from Senator Peter Fitzgerald yesterday saying that the GOP in Illinois is in shambles. Now, if the morons he represents would get a clue and get rid of Hastert, all would be well.
