Republicans protest Star Tribune's polls
Edited on Mon Sep-20-04 10:51 PM by Dickie Flatt
Republicans brought their protest of the Star Tribune's polling methods to the newspaper's front doors in downtown Minneapolis on Monday.

About 40 GOP activists again called for the resignation of Minnesota Poll director Rob Daves or the suspension of the poll through the Nov. 2 presidential election.

"Hey, hey, ho, ho, Rob Daves has got to go" and "Star and Sickle, you're in a pickle," they chanted, using a nickname to describe what they regard as the newspaper's leftist views.

2. And what did they claim was wrong with the poll?
Maybe that it didn't oversample Republicans, like the Gallup/CNN and NYT polls? Like maybe it actually was accurate? Those fuckwits can't stand it when they are treated *fairly.*

7. That's what I figured.

To those buttwipes, any poll showing Kerry winning necessarily had to be based on flawed methodology. The very thought that the entire population is not yearning to kiss The Chimpinator's wrinkly ass is impossible for them to contemplate.

6. WTF writes those things?
Here is the quote from the link:
"The demonstration was relatively good-natured, although the Republicans gently booed employees as they left the building, especially one non-newsroom worker who wore a Kerry button."
Booed gently?
Booed gently?
What kind of crap is that?
Republicans are now booing gently?
LOL.

Gyllenhaal said the Star Tribune's poll methodology is available for anyone to review. He also said it's important to recognize that this political season is particularly volatile. He noted that Gallup and Pew, widely respected national pollsters, last week reported vastly different presidential poll results. The Gallup poll showed Bush leading Kerry 55 percent to 42 percent nationally. The Pew survey showed the two tied at 46 percent.

For years an open secret among academic researchers and polling agencies is starting to become apparent to the general public: the reliability and predictive value of telephone-based surveys is becoming increasingly questionable.

<snip>Independent Media TV - Accurate voter turnout has not been part of the equation for pollsters.
Recently Pollster John Zogby of Zogby International wrote an article discussing how the Newsweek Poll that showed an 11-point lead for the president after the convention was flawed and deceitful.

Lets just keep on with the legitimate protest and see what happens when the fat lady starts to sing!

12. They'll have a lot of work then
Edited on Tue Sep-21-04 12:13 AM by Carolab
St. Paul-Minneapolis has a lot of Kerry-Edwards signs and stickers. (I live here.) There is a small group of very disturbed, very disruptive RW creeps here who try every stunt in the book to stifle Dems. Recently, it was an attempt to shut down a voter registration desk being manned at the State Fair by a local (alternative) newspaper, City Pages. The paper was simultaneously offering a lottery to win a trip. This cretin said they were offering some kind of "bribe" to get people to register. He contacted a RW nutjob at the Secretary of State's office, who as it turns out is an old buddy of his, to try to turn a statute against them. City Pages took this group's punk ringleader to task and cited a section of the statute that instead indicated HE might be breaking the law by trying to interfere with voter registration. Classic. What a bunch of numbnuts.

18. Give it a rest...
... are they afraid that some people aren't going to vote for * becaause he isn't leading a popularity poll? Those polls don't mean diddly anyway. They are a bellweather, not a predictor. The only polls that count don't open until Nov 2.

<snip> Whine, whine, whine. That's all the GOP knows how to do. <snip>

Ron Eibensteiner should not expect anyone but Republicans to do Republican "push polls." <snip>

The Republican chairman will find himself a lone voice against the combined opinion of other researchers, who have always found the Minnesota Poll and Daves to be at the forefront of skill and integrity. <snip>
