New Rules Clarify Vets' Rights on the Job

WASHINGTON (AP) -- The Bush administration proposed new regulations Monday aimed at clarifying employment protections for veterans and reservists returning from active duty.

The Labor Department initiative was announced as Democrat John Kerry stepped up his criticism of President Bush on Iraq. Bush and Iraq's prime minister are scheduled to speak to the United Nations later this week.

``This is a major step in ensuring that the brave men and women who are risking their lives to preserve freedom and democracy have their jobs and benefits protected when they return home,'' Labor Secretary Elaine Chao said of the proposal.

The department also is joining with Home Depot on Tuesday to announce a jobs program aimed at veterans. It is one of several similar jobs programs that have featured the retailer. Home Depot's chief executive, Robert Nardelli, is a ``Super Ranger'' for Bush's re-election campaign, raising at least $300,000 for the Republican National Committee in the 2004 election cycle, according to consumer advocacy group Public Citizen.

Comment: I hope someone at Kerry's hq goes over the new regs with a fine-toothed comb, 'cause you KNOW if they changed the regs, it's to screw the GIs in favor of the Almighty BIDNEZ...(and the Home Despot thing stinks, woo, it stinks!)

1. So Home Depot is contracting with the Labor Dept?
Who next, Walmart? Is Home Depot union? Wages, benefits, job security?

3. I believe that Home Depot is staving off attempts to unionize, and -
has unfair labor practices have been alleged. A quick search on +"home depot" +"labor practices" will give you alot of links.

Now that the employers MUST re-employ workers under any circumstance, including if their job was eliminated, then what would stop that company from laying off that employee within weeks or months after he gets rehired? I know of a local company that did that recently -- a returning reserve soldier came back to his job, who had sinced downsized, only to be layed off 3 weeks later.

4. Home depot pays shitty wages
Not as bad as Walmart however.
The President is a super ranger--- flying all off the country in his corporate jet.

His sheep apparently love him-- they also apparently in certain areas Love the repetitive "drug tests"
