Vowing to improve health care, the N.C. senator tells crowd Bush policies 'will never be with you.'

John Edwards, the Democratic vice presidential candidate, gets a standing ovation from the hometown crowd at the Raleigh Civic and Convention Center.

RALEIGH -- Democratic vice presidential candidate John Edwards told a hometown crowd Monday that President Bush and Vice President Dick Cheney were incompetent in their handling of Iraq. And he came close to calling them liars.

....

"Iraq's a mess," he told a friendly crowd of more than 1,000 at the Raleigh Civic and Convention Center. "And it's a mess because of George W. Bush and Dick Cheney. It is that simple."

4. Is It Just Me, Or Is Edward Essentially Just Being Ignored?
He hardly gets any press at all...They must be terribly frightened of his impact...

5. . . .or are Kerry/Edwards essentially BYPASSING Big Media?
Edited on Tue Sep-21-04 09:25 AM by frankzappa
doing end runs around Big Media in favor of local media and huge crowds wherever they go?

Methinks there was a DU thread here last week called "Retail, Not Wholesale" I'll try to dig it up.

Rats, no such luck - the thread is temporarily unavailable right now.

8. I think they're scared shitless of Edwards.
1. Young, sunny, JFK looking, clean-cut, moderate Southerner.

2. Why does Bush focus on Edwards in some speeches? Every time he talks about health care he says "You can't be pro-health care, pro-doctor and be pro-trial attorney." Which is a stupid freaking statement, but everyone knows he is attacking JE. Who ever heard of a President running against the VP, unless he fears the attractiveness of the VP.

3. JK/JE represent the future, hope, an end to our dark nightmare, as opposed to staying the course like a blind drunk sailing the Titanic.

7. You have to say it over and over
Edwards, a trial lawyer, understands that right down to his marrow. "Iraq is a mess" is a terribly boring thing to say over and over, but it's absolutely essential to say it five times, ten times, fifteen times. Because if you say it just once, the media will react like a dog watching a card trick -- "What's he talking about? Iraq isn't a mess; George and Dick and Condi and Donald and Scott and all the rest say it's going just great and improving every day."

Only by repeating the statement over and over again will you finally penetrate the media consciousness. They're so accustomed to regurgitating whatever the administration tells them that they've learned to ignore the facts right before their eyes. Time is growing short, but Edwards and Kerry have to keep hitting this idea. Mostly because it's true, but also because it's politically advantageous to expose this corrupt administration for the bumbling incompetents that they are.

9. repeat
Lather rinse repeat

Bush says the same things over and over and they stick
in this uneducated society.

So Kerry and Edwards must do the same thing
