Secret Service reviewing comments made by Hopewell woman (Sue Niederer)
This is the woman arrested at the Laura Bush event.

http://www.boston.com/dailynews/266/region/Secret_Service_reviewing_comme:.shtml

Threatening comments made about President Bush by a Hopewell Township woman whose son was killed in Iraq are under review by the Secret Service.

Federal officials said they are examining comments made in online postings of interviews with Sue Niederer, who was arrested last week during a Republican campaign rally in Mercer County when she interrupted a speech by first lady Laura Bush.

In portions an interview posted online in May on the Web site Counterpunch.org, Niederer said she wanted to ''rip the president's head off'' and ''shoot him in the groined area.''

The comments caught the attention of a Secret Service analyst and are under review, according to Special Agent Tony Colgary. It is a federal crime to threaten to kill the president.

1. Naturally, they are scrutinizing the victim
The SS is the striking arm of the Emperor.

But then, almost ALL things in Amerika are bent to serve the Imperial Family.

Hey, at least they aren't dragging her straight to the Gulag at 3am.

6. Much as I hate to say it,
they are doing their duty to check into things like this. I fully understand her outrage and can sympathize, but one can't go around making public statements about causing physical harm to the person holding the office...even if it's the Flim-Flam Man.

I don't want to see Bush assassinated or maimed. I just want him out of office. Exiled would be a icing on the cake! But that's as far as it goes for me.

11. You're right. SS is doing their job. I have 2 friends in the SS.
Their job is to protect the candidate they are assigned to. Several investigations like this happen everyday. These agents have been very serious about threats like that for a long time, and it's gotten more intense in recent years. No matter what their politics, on the job the SS agents are totaly committed to the security of the candidate they are assigned to, no matter what party.

24. You're right - that's why Jesse Helms and Ann Coulter and all the other
repuke scum who made similar comments were investigated and have served time or are now serving time in prison.

Oh, wait, if forgot, THEY'RE NOT!

It seems it's only an action even just worth investigating, let alone being arrested for, when a DEMOCRAT does it!

30. No problem w/ the SS following up, however...
...did they have to publicize it? It appears to me that the only reason the media knows about the SS investigation is because the Bush campaign wants to humiliate this woman for speaking out against them (sound familiar?)...

I've just spent about 2 hours there--cool site. My boy's gonna get famous as the surreptitious seditious poster! I already printed him about 10 draft posters from someone on DU. Does Leperous let you print his/her stuff? I couldn't figure out how (I've got a Mac), and all I could get were itty bitty squares on an 8x10, not the full thing. I want my kids to mass distribute some of these--the more recent ones that high-schoolers could relate to. I think some of his TEACHERS would get more of a bang about some of these--the kids would just be saying WTF?

On Edit: Or think they were SERIOUS, and turn in all their books and shut up.

10. The Secret Service is supposed to protect the president
And they've gone to ridiculous extremes in the past. But this kind of thing has been going on for a long time. They've always been like this.

I won't fault the SS for this. Hey, at least one government agency is doing it's job.

Likely, nothing much will come of it. The SS does investigate every little thing, though. Im sure this woman doesn't mean to kill the president, but better safe than sorry.

There's a major difference between saying you want to, and saying you're going to.

BTW; nothing in this story indicates that she, in fact, lost her son in Iraq.
