Yahoo: New polls show presidential race tightening
WASHINGTON (AFP) - Fresh polls showed the bitter and volatile presidential race between George W. Bush and John Kerry (news - web sites) back to a dead heat as the two candidates stepped up their war of words over Iraq.

Surveys released Thursday by the Pew Research Center and Harris Interactive had Kerry wiping out a solid lead Bush forged with a month of attacks on his Democratic rival capped by the Republican national convention.

The Pew data showed the Massachusetts senator clawing his way back from a 12-point deficit among registered voters interviewed between September 8 and 10 to a 46-46 percent tie four days later.

A Harris poll of likely voters published in the Wall Street Journal had Kerry up 48-47 percent. The twin findings were in marked contrast to previous surveys that showed Bush opening up a margin of two to 12 points.

1. So naturally the Bushevik Mockingbirds at Gallup
with their rigged and Sovietized Polls, show Bunnypants* with a 13-point lead.

I remember when America was free, though it seems a lifetime ago.

4. whoever wins will win by 1 vote
Its a dead heat. We all know it, and voter turnout is the one
variable that no poll can prepare for. Forget the polls. WHomever
wins will win by 1 vote... or by not counting 1.

5. Rate this story a "5".
Let's get these stories on the front page instead of Gallup's. This one says Kerry's ahead and we need to have that broadcasted all over the place.

6. Brave words from Racicot the chickenhawk at the end.
"John Kerry's continually shifting positions on Iraq and his sinking rhetoric of a defeated America send a signal to our allies and our enemies that America is not willing to finish the job," Racicot said.

You're so brave with others lives you chickenhawk! :puke:

7. But but Russert said that even Kerry campaign says it is W by 5 or 6
This morning on the Today Show.

Tim pulled a Fox and said that Kerry campaign officials said that W is up by at least 5 points. :eyes: Of course these "Kerry campaign officials" position in the campaign and names are not needed as that could lead to a follow up.

8. Harris was the ONLY pollster to call the 2000 election correctly
Some good analysis & review of the facts on pollster reliability at

Gallup also shows history not on Bush's side (none / 0)

No incumbent who served his full term in Gallup poll history has ever won re-election when he was not leading by atleast 9 points by September since Roosevelt in 1946 when he only lead by two. Thats 6 out of 7 full term incumbents who had a 9 point lead or more by this time who have won. The three who didnt have lost. Bush is now only tied.

13. Roosevelt in '46???
Roosevelt died in '45. And the next presidential election after that was '48, when Dewey "defeated" Truman.

9. Which Theme will Media Choose? That's going to determine which poll
they emphasize. "Kerry Is a Terrible Candidate who Blew a Lead" or "Its a Horserace, How exciting!" After all, its about a story line, not facts.
