Kerry Hires Ala. Woman Fired for Sticker
http://www.guardian.co.uk/uslatest/story/0,1282,-4495480,00.html

Wednesday September 15, 2004 3:16 AM

DETROIT (AP) - Democrat John Kerry has a new campaign worker helping him drum up support in Alabama after hiring a woman who was fired for displaying the presidential candidate's bumper sticker on her car.

Kerry called Lynne Gobbell on Tuesday after reading a newspaper story describing how she had been fired last Thursday from her job packing cellulose insulation at a Moulton, Ala., plant.

Gobbell said her former employer had told her she could either work for him or Kerry. She said Kerry told her, ``Let him know that as of today, you're working for John Kerry.''

``He was proud of me for standing up for what I believe in,'' the newly employed, 41-year-old said of her quick phone call with the candidate.

Gobbell said Kerry didn't offer too many details about her new position. She will be helping the campaign and may be traveling a little as it gets closer to the election.

Hope this isn't a dupe. Searched but am at wark and couldn't spend much time.

12. The original story made the U.S. press
But not the major outlets of course. As usual I had to find out about it in through the internet. It is linked below, a few posts down, from some dinky little small town paper. It infuriated me and I put the article in full on a few other, not exclusively political sites I frequent.

But this development should DEFINITELY get mainstream coverage. Not that I am hopeful, of course. There's nothing the media won't do to keep Kerry down.

15. There are some indigenous outlets carrying the story, I had to Google
Kerry Alabama to find the news story. The Guardian was the top result.

*sigh*

All in all, a good thing. I still believe and hope there's a law suit from hell awaiting her employer.

2. Indeed, these are strange times ...
Sadly, we get the full story through the Brit media. The American Mass media are seemingly *all* whores to the Military-Industrial Complex.

4. To be honest, she should sue her employer for wrongful termination
She should not have been fired for bumperstickers on her car.

I hope the press makes a stink about this one!

14. she probably doesn't have a leg to stand on legally

Down here in the "red" states, the absence of any viable labor laws leaves workers at the mercy of the employers, or "work at will" as it is called. An employee can be fired at any time for any reason, or no reason at all down here.

bush should have been on the phone telling her this kind of action is not condoned by the gop, or anyone else. he then should of been on the phone to this so called employer who is a bush supporter reading him his rights.

19. I have a Kerry bumper sticker on my cube wall at work but
nobody has said squat to me about it. Technically, it is against company policy to use company property (a wall) to display a political statement.

Our company PAC is supposed to be neutral but I looked up ( http://www.fec.gov/finance_reports.html ) who the senior execs gave money to and it's 80% repuke.
