CBS: Dems Say Kerry Back On Track
http://www.cbsnews.com/stories/2004/09/16/politics/main643960.shtml

Despite turmoil in the John Kerry campaign, key Democrats believe Kerry is back on-message and poised to overtake President Bush by Election Day. Following two weeks of Kerry campaign reorganization, optimism flourishes among Democratic insiders.

Veteran Democratic strategists agree that John Kerry had a poor August, was off message and allowed President Bush to drive the momentum of the campaign. That’s ending, in party veterans’ view.

While the cohesiveness of the Democratic campaign remains in question, Kerry’s coming turn around does not among many party veterans. They believe the Kerry campaign has sufficiently restructured and is now on track.

Certainly, in the past week, Kerry has been his best: clear spoken and fervent in driving home a difference between he and the incumbent.

5. It's nice to have leading Dems "flourishing with optimism"
The campaign's internal polls must be reflecting that - more reason to dismiss that idiotic CNN poll.

4. Great article
but I have to say this is horrible grammar: It's "between him and the incumbent," not "between he and the incumbent."

6. Remember guys - Kerry is a fighter
Kerry is known for being a clutch politician (in sports terms anyway). If you want one politician shooting the buzzer-beater shot, it's John Kerry. He came back from fourth in primary polls to claim the lead - when he focused on battering home the issues. He's done this during his Senate campaigns as well. John Kerry just knows how to come out of no place and wallop his opponent during the final stages of the total campaign. And he's gonna do it (and he is doing it now firing hard at Bush) this campaign!

21. ...and he needs to hammer Bush with the delusional theme
The man is a pathological liar and incompetent and if the media pick that up on the contrast between words and deeds we have a winner.

But I do fear the October surprise. BushCo will do anything, anything to maintain power.

8. This is why I love CBS
They really do have hope for America and want the best man (Kerry) for the job. Let's all send them email in support of their positive attitude.

13. I don't think CBS is endorsing Kerry.
They are just providing fair news coverage.

Not being pro-Bush 24 hours a day does not mean they are for Kerry.

That would be wrong, too.

I agree that we have to support their excellent news coverage, though. We have to support it even if it is critical of Kerry, in a fair manner.

9. He is.
I wrote the campaign yesterday and told them just that: Kerry is now hitting the right message. The key for them now is to make sure Kerry gets the message OUT.

11. The mission against right-wing cockroaches was always "on track"!
Of course, only the "in the theatre", highly educated, grassroots, real-life "passionate compassionates" could tell the public that *SMIRK*,...

WATCH OUT!!!!

12. An end to the circular firing squad?
Wow, I thought I'd never see an article where "Democratic strategists" actually had positive things to say about the Kerry campaign. Could it be possible that these people are finally starting to act like adults?

15. nah, wait for the NYT
Wait a couple of days and the NYT will have a story about the Democratic insiders calling the Kerry campaign "doomed" and "in disarray".

14. Edwards is kicking butt as much or more than Kerry! I think Edwards is
the only Southerner I could ever trust. (Besides that Canadian Southerner Neil Young.)

I really got depressed the days of the Butcher's Convention, especially when the Whore Media polls came out. I was ready to give up. I was so tired for working so long days and nights for years. I thought, I'm not going to give up. This is the line on the ground. NO MORE! I hit back with every once of will I have. And it worked. I'm telling you, I can will these things to happen. ENOUGH, NOT IN MY NAME! Kerry's not going down on my watch!

17. Edwards has been at the top of his game lately
I've never seem him so witty and sharp.

the line about Bush's catastrophic sucess, "I have no idea what he means"

or Cheney's ebay route, "well if they would start traking bake sales, and lemonade stands we'd really be cookin'"

He's on fire! I want to see more, and I'm pumped. I was also a little weary after the RNC but now we are coming back stronger than ever.

20. Kerry is a brilliant strategist.
Timing is everything, and he knows when to play, hold and fold. He's just starting to play.

Kerry will get even stronger and more focused as the campaign continues. That is his fundamental character -- demonstrated throughout his life -- and that is why he will win.

24. I don't see any of this..
..out of the Kerry camp. There's still far, far too much of this "Bush is an honest man who makes honest mistakes" rhetoric coming from him. I consider it a colossal blunder, for example, that Kerry hasn't done anything to support CBS or Dan Rather right now. Kerry should be out there saying "Even if these documents are false, the information in them is factually correct, as established by many other documents whose veracity no one questions. The president dodged the draft, period, no matter how Congress or the president wants to spin it." Instead, the Republicans once again take the tempo from Kerry and use the flap over the documents as a way of taking Bush's military service completely off the table as an issue.
