Bush Rebukes Afghans, Others for Drug Production
WASHINGTON (Reuters) - President Bush, who touts Afghanistan as a success in the war on terrorism, on Thursday included the country on his list of major drug-producing nations and said its U.S.-backed president, Hamid Karzai, lacked the capacity to solve the problem.

Bush also announced that Thailand was being removed from the annual list of major drug-transit and drug-producing countries, citing a drop in Thai opium poppy cultivation and heroin processing. Bush said Haiti's new interim government was making progress, but sharply criticized North Korea and Myanmar.

The vast majority of illicit drugs entering the United States comes from South America and Mexico, but Bush cited "continuing concerns" about the flow of drugs from Canada.

White House spokesman Scott McClellan quoted Bush as saying that he was "concerned" legislation in Canada to decriminalize possession of small amounts of marijuana "could be an invitation to greater activity by organized crime and can undermine law enforcement and prosecutorial efforts."

Karzai became Afghanistan's president after a U.S.-led invasion toppled the Taliban, who were protecting Osama bin Laden and his al Qaeda network, architects of the Sept. 11, 2001, attacks on the United States.

2. You never see Laura Bush rebuking the drug industry
Edited on Thu Sep-16-04 05:45 PM by Alpharetta
I wonder if her past drug dealing (according to Kitty Kelly) has anything to do with how she is happy to weigh in on stem cell research (she says it's useless) but she hasn't said anything about the War on Drugs.

She's also refused to do any advertisements for MADD.

4. "Afghans rebuke Bu$h for causing rise in drug production."
Edited on Thu Sep-16-04 05:57 PM by Zorra
Iran-Contra was cocaine on American streets.

Afghanistan-Oil is heroin on American streets.

Nice going, Bu$h - can't you do anything right?

Or is this a deliberate plan to help fuel the "war on drugs" increase the number of stateside police to fight the "drug war", boost the prison industry by putting more dope out there for a new batch of hopeless, hapless junkies, while at the same time increasing mob profits?

Enron, the mob - who knows just how many "corporations" Bu$h is beholding to?

5. The Drug Warlords are glad the Taliban is gone
The Taliban worked to keep opium production down. Now with that oppressive regime gone, the drug warlords are enforcing their might upon the farmers, with threats of death even.

Hmm...sounds like Iraq. Remove the oppressive regime and the rebel factions start pouring out of the cracks.

And Bush and his nefarious neocons didn't see ANY of this coming!

Incompetence at its very definition!

6. Canada??
Jeezus. We get further and further down the rabbit hole every day.

I thought legalizing pot was a way to STOP organized crime. Didn't there used to be something called 'prohibition'? What was that about? Are there any lessons to be learned from it?

:eyes:

Bush- Just quit. You don't really want this job anyway.
Bud Selig- Offer your job to Georgie. Do it for the planet. Do it for your children. Just do it.

8. It's a sacrifice we have to accept.
O8)

We can always rebuild baseball. Hell, it may need destruction and rebuilding. Apologies to Barry Bonds though- he would always have an asterisk by his home run record.

I think a Bush vs. MLBPA collective bargaining negotiation would be worth paying to watch!

9. One of the reasons we bombed Afghanistan, other than the
pipeline was because they produced 40% of the world's heroin market before the Taliban shut it down completely. The Taliban was cutting into our profits.

20. Well, the Taliban were doing a great job destroying the poppies
and that is why Colin Powell gave them a big US Government check back in May 2001 for a job well done.

When Bush decided to go to war against the Taliban, rather than pursue Osama bin Laden in the same way the Israelis pursued the terrorists responsible for the Munich Olympics massacre, he allied himself with the drug warlords of the Northern Alliance. He got what he wanted! I don't know why Bush is now complaining about drugs when he is the one that toppled that Taliban.

What's next? Put Saddam back in power in Iraq to smash the Islamists, and the Taliban in Afghanistan to burn the poppies?

21. Maybe we could switch them? Put Saddam in Afghanistan
and put the Taliban in Iraq (that is, if we ever get around to finding the Taliban. They're around here somewhere....)
