1. so the net effect of Bush challenging the 60 Minutes memos
is that he is prolonging the story. Good!!

2. Not just prolonging the story...
...but getting the story back on track. This whole thing was never about memos to begin with. It was about Bush getting preferential treatment and shirking his duties.

3. Anybody else think Rather is playing chess with Rove?
With Cronkite in his corner?

5. Oh, I think so.

I love that Rather got it out of Marian Cox that the content of the "forged" memos is very similar to the content of memos that she, in fact, did type up and that they had been changed just enough for whomever did the forgery to cover their tracks.

8. One wonders of the officer didn't type the memos himself rather than
involve his secretary in criticizing a young man who was so well connected and vindictive. There are many officers who practice a certain form of chivalry and do strive to protect underlings; something no one in the junta could ever be accused of.

15. Unlikely, according to Knox --
She said they included language that was "Army, not Air Force." Passing it along FWIW.

13. "changed just enough" or "cleansed of any more egregious facts"?
Edited on Thu Sep-16-04 10:44 AM by Iceburg
The portion of the interview with Marian Carr Knox was a real smoking gun ...

"You didn't type these memos?" Rather asked Knox on camera.

She replied, "It's not the form I would have used and there are words in there that belong to the Army, not the Air Guard. We never used those terms."

Ms. Knox denies typing "those" memos however states that the core of the information in them is correct. She states that Killian did write a memo "like that", but went on to say "Its seems that somebody did see those memos and then tried to reproduce -- and maybe changed them enough so that he wouldn't get in trouble over it -- could deny it."

Questions
Were the "originals" more invective? Or is trying to recall adverbatim a document from 32 years a bit of a stretch for any mind on this planet? Did RoveInc replace the original with a censured less castigating memo?

What is your interpretation of those specific remarks by Ms. Knox?

16. Well, you know...
...that the White House has probably had all relevant documents all along, including any memos typed up by Killian or Knox. So, it's possible that the original memos are more critical and detailed.

12. Right. And, remember, that Hodges guy...
... who also later said the docs may be forgeries *also* said that the content basically expressed Killian's view and conversations at the time.

(And, personally, I'm still not sold on the "forgery" angle.)

4. A definite pattern is showing....arrogance!
His arrogance is legendary and he hides behind his "born again" facade to soften it but maybe people will start resenting his rigid policies (based on arrogance) now.

9. He also hides behind his wife, his VP, Condi, and no one calls him
a coward for this. I keep saying, remember the video of the Taliban beating those Iraqi women in the streets? Watch the Young repug video of kicking the woman, watch Bush's Secret Service pulling hair, hitting and dragging women, listen to Cheney use profanity on the Senate floor and say he feels better for it and notice how Bush endorses all these 'civilized' behaviors. And then tell me, how exactly is Bush different from Saddam? OH, and lets not forget that the torture goes all the way up Bush! He is far from a 'christian' if a 'christian' has values and ethics. They are a bunch of dirtbag liars.

17. He'll NEVER answer the questions
He's used to getting whatever he wants the easy way. He certainly has not shown "leadership", as he claims!
