4. Thanks for putting the number in the Subject line...
...I'm ashamed to say that sometimes I've skipped over reports of casualties because they looked like "old news" that I'd already read.

These constantly increasing numbers are hard to ignore.

Keep it up.

9. Ditto that. And I can't believe it's at 1021 already..a bad week.
And far, far worse for the Iraqis. I think they've lost 150 or so this week.

5. Thanks for keeping us honest Saigon
Somehow, hopefully, the Iraqis are not totally screwed in all this.

Good wishes for the family and loved ones of this newest one lost.

6. 47 deaths already this month
At this pace, September will be one of the deadliest months of the Iraq invasion.

8. Thank you saigon
Goddamit it all!! Goddamit, goddamit! All these names, all these faces are right around the age of my son when he died. For every one killed or injured there are hundreds of family and friends that are suffering. All the nameless and faceless Iraqis that we never hear about. How many more will the dipshit coward in the WH allow? He doesn't give a shit and I'm just so tired of him ignoring what he started.

instead of logging on to DU right away. The similarities to Vietnam and Iraq are quite frightening. Made me cry all over again. When will it ever end.... :(

15. the liberated western province remains a graveyard for the Marines
Edited on Thu Sep-16-04 05:41 AM by Aidoneus
How many of their brothers--(I would say 'sisters' for gender fairness, but glancing at the casualties list for al-Anbar it would seem to be just the menfolk being buried from the Marines occupying the area)--must fall before the realization sets in that they're just not wanted around? The unifying and strengthening effect they have on the resisting parties will make their eventual retreat less of a chaotic affair, but in the present tense there is naught gained from such stubborn and suicidal aggressions (unless you're the guy tasked with converting unused soccer stadiums into Shuhadah Cemetary #59--business is getting better all the time for him and they'll be sub-contracting out for #60 in no time).

I do, however, love the language of the propaganda department of the occupying forces:--"security and stability operations", "Anti-Iraqi Forces" in other comminiques, etc..
