Ethics complaint unravels (case against Tom DeLay likely to be dismissed)
The ethics complaint against Majority Leader Tom DeLay (R-Texas) about improper fundraising is likely going to be dismissed by the House ethics committee, according to a source familiar with the panel’s internal discussions.

The panel’s chairman and ranking member yesterday denied that any decision had been made, but the well-placed source said the outcome is no longer in doubt; what remains is for at least some of the panel’s five Democrats to agree formally.

The panel is not yet ready to make an announcement. In a telephone conference call with Chairman Joel Hefley (R-Colo.) and several aides yesterday, Rep. Alan Mollohan (D-W.Va.), the panel’s ranking member, said, “Neither the chairman nor I have the benefit . The facts are still coming in to make a determination.

“The additional time is being used to continue the fact-gathering process. Whatever decision we make will be well-founded. We’re doing a serious job of looking into it. At some point we’ll have to make recommendations to the full committee, and we want to be well-grounded.”..........more.....

1. But he still faces criminal prosecution in Texas
for running afoul of a century old campaign finance law.
We have him on that.

6. I can't tell you how relieved I was to see that the article is ONLY
about "the House." Sure, the House wasn't going to take it seriously. Thank heaven it wasn't about the criminal prosecution.

7. you mean this type of arrogant pigheaded asshole
bothers you?

Tom DeLay, who browbeat a D.C. restaurant manager to let him smoke a cigar at his table. When the manager stood his ground, explaining that because it was a federal building, smoking violated the law of the federal government, DeLay thundered back, "I am the federal government!"

10. Trust me
Ronnie Earl, Travis Co. District Atty, won't let him get away with this.
The PAC that organized the ad campaigns has already lost its case before the Supreme Court that it had protection under the first amemdment.

Wheels are slowly grinding. Fuck the House. They won't be trusted to have the courage to do the right thing and invesitgate one of their own especially one who is so powerful. Slowly but surely he is going to have to be held accountable.

8. Here's the complaint and how to contact Committee members
CONTACT THE CONGRESSIONAL ETHICS COMMITTEE (5 Dems, 5 Republicans) TO DEMAND THAT THEY VOTE FOR A FULL INVESTIGATION OF THE ETHICS COMPLAINT AGAINST TOM DELAY (filed by Chris Bell) AT THIER SEPT. 20, 2004 MEETING.

********We just need to get ONE Republican to vote with the Dems**********

Let these Congressmen and Congresswoman know that the eyes of the voters in their districts are upon them on this matter - and you are going to remember how they vote.

The complaint covers three allegations:

1) DeLay's soliciting a bribe from Westar Energy in return for an amendment to the energy bill that would have resulted in millions of dollars in savings for the company;

2) DeLay's use of his PAC, Texans for a Republican Majority to launder corporate money, converting such funds into hard dollars that were donated directly to candidates for the Texas State Legislature; and

3) DeLay's use of the Federal Aviation Administration to track down a plane carrying Texas legislators who had left the State to avoid voting on DeLay's partisan redistricting plan.

11. I am soooo shocked!
What do you expect when repukes controll all the branches of government, have been caught stealing Democratic disk drive records, locking Democrats out of discussions of legislation because they already have the votes and don't need to hear any dissentint opinions, etc., etc.
