27% Believe CBS Memos Authentic; 38% Disagree (Rasmussen)
http://www.rasmussenreports.com/CBS%20Memos.htm

this whole thing is a bad diversion and is eating up valuable days in which to discuss real issues...

---------------------------
September 14, 2004--Twenty-seven percent (27%) of voters believe that the CBS Memos concerning President Bush's National Guard service are authentic. However a Rasmussen Reports survey also found that 38% believe the memos are forgeries.

<snip>

Thirty-eight percent (38%) of voters believe Rather presents the news in an unbiased manner. An identical 38% say that Rather is using his broadcasts to try and help elect John Kerry.

4. Kerry is talking about the issues, as his Detroit speech today attests
and people can pay attention to more than one thing at a time. I don't think this story is pushing out coverage of everything else.

3. 38%. That's Bush base-level support, folks.
Conclusion: undecided voters aren't discounting the memos as forgeries. They may still be undecided, but they clearly haven't given into the GOP yet.

7. And 95% of polls are 100% idiotic.
You don't decide issues of truth and falsehood by polling a large group of random idiots and going with whatever gets the most responses.

20. I just hope the docs are NOT linked to da Kerry campaign.
A congressional investigation hopefully would be completed after da election. But if it was found that the docs were linked to Kerry or even worse the Democratic Party... our credibility would be hurt severely.

But then again, when Clinton showed up on the steps of the US capitol with Congress on the eve of the election between Bush 1 and Clinton saying he had evidence of Bush 1 in Iran Contra... Well he got away with murder and our credibility was not tarnished.

Kerry could really use Clinton right now.

Maybe Clinton could phone up his buddie bob dole and get some Viagra so he could have the strength to come up with some kind of scheme.

@$shiiiT$@ the fake docs on Capitol Hill could have worked again but f$@in Dan Rather had to boch it up... If we tried that again, the RNC would have a field day calling the docs fakes!!!

Maybe we should toss in the towel and get Gephart.... JEESE!

18. Can of worms...
is wide open and more docs will surface. Will all of those be debunked, as well? CBS and Dan Rather will keep digging now that they have been challenged regarding their credibilty. This could be a good thing for Dems.

Seriously people if W's crappy Vietnam problem can't be used against him and in fact is used against Kerry then we all need to stop wasting our time right now.

23. It shut Rush Limbaugh up re: John Kerry for a few minutes
I had to listen to about 20 minutes of his show today and he was blasting Dan Rather and CBS News instead of John Kerry (he was also playing weatherman at the top of the show blabbering about Ivan.) He even had a positive thing to say about John Kerry, where he was crediting him with lowering the unemployment rate to 5.4% thanks to him hiring a bunch of the former Clinton folks.

25. And in other news, 90% of American males wish they had a million
dollars. The rest wanted a billion.

And 25% of Americans believe Christ is coming again! Soon! Like next week!

And 100% of the people in our household believe that if he is real and if he did come back, he'd leave ASAP as soon as he saw what a fu'd mess this planet is.

Anything else we'd like to majority vote on?

The one thing I wish they'd get straight is that no expert has said these documents are false. Period.

30. Kinda suprising since most tv news just parrots RNC talking points..
Its proven fact that most of the news is one broken record of the memos sent by the White House and RNC on how to react to subjects day by day. ( Oh and you lurking freepers out there: prove me wrong! I double dare ya.. You know im right bout this! ) And im kinda suprised that the polls show its almost even bout this. It just goes to show that perhaps the people know they are being led around by the nose by the news and CBS came out and told it like it was.
Three cheers for CBS..Thank god SOMEONE did some actual reporting for a change

33. None of this means anything, and it needs to be fought, as do other things
85% of the people in this country (a far greater percentage than any other industrialized nation, by the way) believe that there's a god, but that doesn't mean there is one.

If the fucks want to start calling it a forgery, they need to be called down and harangued into the ground. Whether good or bad, the battle's joined: CBS cited these as evidence, and it's their obligation to verify them. For anyone to claim they're fake, THEY need to verify that. It's endlessly tiresome that somehow public opinion is fact. It's not. People are shockingly prone to getting it absolutely wrong.

Whether we like it or not, this is happening, and we can't shy away from it.

It shouldn't be allowed to take over the whole discourse, and if it does for some reactionaries, then too bad: they lose. We'll keep talking about the war, the economy and the endless lies. Kerry didn't do this, and if anyone wants to tag him with it, they will--and should--be called out for it.
