Bush Says He's Proud of Guard Service
LAS VEGAS - President Bush (news - web sites), his Vietnam-era military service the subject of dispute, said Tuesday he is proud of his stint in the Air National Guard and told members strained by today's wars that he is trying to make their lives easier.

"Nineteen individuals have served both in the National Guard and as president of the United States, and I am proud to be one of them," Bush said at the National Guard Association of the United States conference.

Members of the Guard are fighting in Afghanistan (news - web sites) and Iraq (news - web sites), and helping recovery efforts after Florida hurricanes, Bush said. "I am proud to be their commander in chief, and I respect and honor all of those who serve in the United States Armed Forces — active, Guard and Reserve."
----

Everyone see what he is trying to do here. In the 70's the Guard was a place of safety. You got to stay stateside, unlike today. Yet bush is trying to make it sound like he was in the Guard of today. The ones who have to, thanks to bush, carry a lot of the water in his wars without the equipment needed to fight them.

Just sad.

is one sure fireway of not having to answer to the questions looming out there about his service...once again, bush is thumbing his nose at us and saying, "BECAUSE I CAN".

"It is critical that the president of the United States speak clearly and consistently at this time of great threat in our world, and not change positions because of expediency or pressure," Bush told his applauding audience in a speech to the National Guard Association of the United States.

This thing makes me :puke:

12. Translation: "When you attack my guard service ...
your attacking the National Guard and all who serve in it. Shame on you evil doers!"

He's trying to deflect the charges against him that he received special treatment because of his family connections by pretending his service was no different than anybody else's. He's insulting those who really do serve the same as he insulted Purple Heart Vets.

18. Just a reminder...
He's also proud of his medicare bill; the IRS tax adjustment; the Iraq invasion; the Patriot Act; Cheney and the rest of his staff; his mom and dad; his brother(s); his daughters; his God; his money; his status; his sWINdle of the 2000 election; his handling of 9-11; etc., ad nauseum.

My response to his being proud of anything is that the rest of us should be ashamed for him since he evidently isn't able to find within himself humbleness for the error of his ways or his wrongdoings.

21. The term is "gold brick"
as a noun:

1. A bar of gilded cheap metal that appears to be genuine gold.
2. A fraudulent, worthless substitute.

and the verb "gold-bricking":

1.receiving payment for time not spent on work.

23. I'm sure he is "proud" of his mediocre service
Edited on Tue Sep-14-04 04:54 PM by Politicub
He's happy with being half-assed. There are lots of people like him in the world. I just don't want one of them as my president.

For president, I look for someone who has gone above and beyond the call of duty to achieve excellence. Not some schmuck who does the bare minimum and skates through life.

So - Bush may be telling the truth for the first time. He's proud of not showing up for duty, proud that someone else went to die in Vietnam in his place, and I'm sure he's proud that he had the connections to avoid showing up for guard duty while still getting credit for it.

That's a lot to be proud of, Mr. Bush. By that standard, I'm sure you're welling with pride over the shitty job you've done as president. I bet you're proud of the millions more who don't have health care coverage, the millions of jobs that were lost during your administration, and proud of allowing more than 1,000 Americans to die for your war in Iraq.

30. What likely is the case
He can't remember what he was doing back then. I'm sure Shrub's memory of the time he served is a drug-induced haze that he is filling in through pure self-compensating fantasy in order to deny how bad a problem he had/has.

They wouldn't make a polygraph twitch, their belief is so strong. That's why these jackasses are so dangerous.

I think that * is applying the "Any landing you can walk away from is a good landing, if they can use the plane again, it's a great landing" standard to his life and his residency. Any term that you don't wind up in prison is a good term, if they can use the country again afterwards, it's a great term.

Assholes.
