Cheney Speaks on School Killings ("Russia got his") -NYT
OTTUMWA, Iowa, Sept. 13 - Mr. Cheney said Monday that last week's massacre at a school in the southern Russian town of Beslan had caused some foreign leaders who have been skeptical of America's aggressive foreign policy to reconsider.

"Some of our European friends have been somewhat ambivalent," Mr. Cheney told a town hall meeting inside an airport hangar on the outskirts of this small town in southeast Iowa. He mentioned no nations by name.

Some foreign countries have probably been thinking that "if they kept their heads down," their citizens would not suffer terrorist attacks, the vice president said. "Well, Russia got his anyway," he said.

As a result, Mr. Cheney said, "people are reassessing now" whether they should shed their ambivalence and openly support Mr. Bush's policies.

27. I understand your thinking, but
the people Cheney is talking at are drinking this up and don't know shit about what you said (you're alot better informed than they are). For all they know, this is their big "wake-up call" or 9-11. I've seen that written by right-wingers. They have no memory or information about any serious previous attacks or what they are even fighting about.

20. Maybe where he grew up, the phrase "got his"...
...doesn't mean the same thing it means everywhere I've been.

You know, like how some people say "pop" while others call the same thing "soda" -- maybe it's just one of those silly little vocabulary differences, and he didn't really mean those kids deserved to die.

Or maybe I'll wake up and find out the last four years have all just been a bad dream.

Hey, it could happen, right?

Reassess your policies towards our activities and objectives in the region or expect to see more of this ...

According to the latest issue of Der Spiegel, "Several children who had escaped recounted that the hostage-takers had been clad in new NATO battle-dresses in the classic camouflage colors. All had been equipped with modern radio sets, newly looking automatic weapons, first-aid kits and compasses."

"Mehrere entkommene Kinder erzählten, die Geiselnehmer hätten neue Nato-Uniformen in den klassischen Tarnfarben getragen. Alle seien mit modernen Funkgeräten, neu aussehenden Automatikwaffen, Erste-Hilfe-Paketen und Kompassen ausgestattet gewesen.

Have the Chechens ever attacked a school of children before?

Americans tortured children in Abu Ghraib. The similarity between Abu Ghraib and what happened at this school really bothers me.

Now I'm feeling extremely upset. BushCo has no soul. I wouldn't put anything, anything beyond them. Would they actually do this?

44. A line was crossed-innoncence lost- I feel as if this "attack" was a chasm
a shift, a sign of something coming....Not that terrorists have ever had a "conscience" but I felt a deep shudder in my soul when this attack on the children of Beslan happened. I felt as if a terrible sign of things to come was marked with this event....almost a preview for what is to come....There are now NO LIMITS...interesting points on our torture in Abu Ghraib....something just isn't right....and your right, BushCo has no soul.....

And I think the final answer to your question....YES, they would.

There is a lot of weird and inconsistent details about the Beslan attack and the supposed "Arab" connection and the fact that the Russian gov't refuses to release much information and also that they were so well equipped etc....Also, what's the deal with some of the Terrorists having gotten away?

A lot of things here don't compute or pass the smell test....Meanwhile Cheney's comments are just getting more and more outrageous....he is a sick MOFO...

35. By Any Means Necessary
In Qatar, two Defense Ministry intelligence agents were convicted of the murder in February of former separatist Chechen president Zelimkhan Yandarbiyev. They are now serving life sentences there. But this mishap may not stop further such attacks. The United States has given refuge to Ilyas Akhmadov, the former Chechen foreign minister, while Britain has granted asylum to Akhmed Zakayev.

Moscow has angrily demanded their extradition -- and if this is refused, may resort to murder. As Ivanov has said, "A preemptive strike may involve any action," implying that the Kremlin now views assassination as a legitimate tactic anywhere in the world.
