Saboteurs blow up pipeline junction in northern Iraq

KIRKUK, Iraq (AP) Saboteurs blew up a junction where multiple oil pipelines cross the Tigris River in northern Iraq on Tuesday, setting off a chain reaction in power generation systems that left the entire country without power, officials said.

Firefighters struggled to put out the blaze after the attack near Beiji, 155 miles north of Baghdad. Crude oil cascaded down the hillside into the river. Fire burned atop the water, fueled by the gushing oil.

Beiji is the point where several oil pipelines converge, said Lt. Col. Lee Morrison of the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers.

''This made the Beiji Electricity station stop for technical reasons making the whole electricity system (in Iraq) stop,'' al-Samarie said in a statement released by his office.

1. Remember...................
when events like these used to make the price of crude soar within hours? It seems that the closer we get to the elections events like these have no impact at all on crude prices. I wonder why that is? :silly:

The Tigris burning.

US reporters have to either be brain dead or totally
medicated to ignore this.

Mafkarat al-Islam reported that at least 24 American troops
had been
killed in two Resistance attacks launched against US
troop columns
in ar-Ridwaniyah and Bayji. At 8:00pm Saturday, the
Resistance
ambushed US armored vehicles on the highway
in ar-Ridwaniyah with
rocket-propelled grenades, BKCs, and automatic
weapons, destroying
four armored vehicles totally. Eye witnesses reported that
there
were at least 18 American bodies strewn about, all of them
in Marine
uniforms. Six other US troops were killed north of Bayji at
5:00pm
when the Resistance ambushed troops in the Makhul
area, destroying
one military fuel tank truck and two civilian fuel trucks.

4. Not having a good day at all.
Shit blowing up all over the place.
US response is more aerial bombing.
I don't expect that will help much.
