VU gets $10M for school choice center
Mods, if you feel the need, shuffle this to the education forum. I think this is something all people need to be aware of, though, because I expect major propaganda promoting vouchers will come from this.

The nation's first federally-funded research center on school choice will be headquartered in Nashville after Peabody College at Vanderbilt University recently won a $10 million grant from the U.S. Department of Education.

Charter schools, magnet schools and home schools are among the choices that the new Center on School Choice will examine.

...

The $2 million a year over the next five years will be used to initiate three primary studies, the first examining who is enrolled in various schools of choice and whether the opportunities are evenly distributed, Wong said.

Other projects will seek to answer questions that could guide future systems of accountability and improve choice options: Are these programs cost-effective? What effect does competition have on the quality of education? How much autonomy should schools have? Under what conditions are some charter schools more effective than others?
