US troops face new torture claims (Mosul prison)
Edited on Mon Sep-13-04 09:31 PM by DoYouEverWonder
September 14, 2004

Allegations that American soldiers routinely tortured and maltreated detainees have emerged from a third Iraqi city, renewing fears that abuse similar to that inflicted in Abu Ghraib jail in Baghdad has been systematic and widespread.

American soldiers in the northern Iraqi city of Mosul beat and stripped detainees, threatened sexual abuse and forced them to listen to loud western music, according to statements seen by the Guardian.

Lawyers investigating the claims have sent details to the Pentagon and the British Ministry of Defence and have demanded an inquiry.

Though the abuse of prisoners at the Abu Ghraib jail and in Basra has been well-documented, this is the first time claims of abuse have been made from the north of the country.

Two statements have been taken from Iraqis detained in Mosul and more are expected.

Looks like we've found another bunch of bad apples. I'm sure Rummie is dusting off his old excuses.

2. I am sure that widespread torture has fueled the insurgency
It is not surprising that the insurgency is so strong if (as it appears) thousands of innocent Iraqis have been imprisoned and mistreated and then released, and there are certainly many prisoners currently being tortured since the interim Iraqi Govt took over the prisons.

3. It only took a couple of years...
to discover this. No photos this time.

The Prison Torture Widespread Policy has been in Cover Up Mode!

Is is any wonder that many, incl. me believe that The US Govt., Justic Dept. and Congress no longer beleive in The Constitution of the USA?

Rumsfailed Admitted to Violating Geneva Convention

Rumsfailed admitted in public on TV that when CIA Director Tenet requested that an Iraqi prisoner be sent to a secret Afghan/US Prison that Rumsfailed did so. After four months a DOD Attorney stated that this was an illegal act. Rumsfailed then ordered that this prisoner be sent back to Abu Graib but the prisoner was not listed at that location, also an illegal act. That is two violations of the Geneva Convention by Rumsfailed. Tenet and Rumsfailed violated the Geneva convention, thereby also The Constitution of the USA. Recently it has been found out that even more detainees were "ghost detainees". The fact that he has not been charged speaks volumes.

Does the US no longer abide by the Geneva Convention or the Constitution of the USA?

It is obvious that this is the case!.

6. Centrist mantra: "I'm going to put my hands over my ears and go MMMMMMMMMM
...until all this torture/helicopter attack/civilian massacre news stops!"

And...what if...my dear neo-liberal Kerry-For-A-Stronger-America types...what if it never stops?
