43. Matt Lauer will probably treat Kitty Kelley with the same lack of
respect he gave to Michael Moore. Those who criticize * are expected to have PhD level dissertations to back up their claims, while * and his whole administration can lie about reasons to go to war and the media just act as cheerleaders. They don't ask * or those in his (mis) administration for proof on WMDs or Saddam's alleged connections to Al-Queda. Anything proffered by * is accepted as if it was given to Moses on Sinai.

This Jew just says OY VEY!

Basically said Iraq could have been avoided if Matt had asked the same type of tough questions to Bush Adm. What I love about Michael is he doesn't flinch when asked a challenging question. Hope Kitty can handle herself as well.

In a reversal of the sniper attacks launched on John Kerry and his military record by the Swiftboat Veterans for Truth organisation’s adverts on TV, an outfit calling itself Texans for Truth is going to start running television ads asking if Bush ever served with a unit in Alabama. The Republicans have already rubbished the planned ads as unfair and playing dirty.

These people are pyschotic.

This article is a thing of pure beauty.

34. Yes, THANKS for that link. At the bottom of the page, there's another link
concerning Bush #41 and Jennifer Fitzgerald at a NEWSMAX site! I had to check, unable to believe Newsmax would EVER print a word of questionable material about the elder Bush but, by golly, they do describe a complete, torrid relationship with another woman by the Poppy.

The new information about the Bushes is going to get them all really cranky. Spreading negative material about people has ALWAYS been the weapon the Republicans wielded maniacally and brutally against Democrats, even other Republicans. It will be so comical if we get a chance to see them squirm just a bit.

23. Reports of Dubya doing cocaine in the mid-60's
Just a dumb question that came up with a discussion of the Kelley book on a local liberal station last week. I know LSD, marijauna and heroin were common then, but what about cocaine? Was it something in the Ivy League? I know coke became popular in the 70's, but just curious about it in the 60's?

Can anyone comment on that.

Edited on Sun Sep-12-04 12:39 AM by rmpalmer
but reading the Sunday Herald it mentioned he started coke in the mid-60's in college. I'm just asking how prevalent it was then. I can't remember hearing about coke back then. Course I was only in my mid-teens.

From Sunday Herald

The book claims that Bush first used coke at university in the mid-1960s.

57. It was her ex-BF (well, he's "ex'd" now, anyway). Possibly a fiancee
Hey, give Laura a break. If she felt like she had to do her fiancee/boyfriend in at the time, there's a good chance he was a creep who needed killin'. Instead she waited until she found herself a fella who didn't beat on her or run around on her and provided a decent home for their kids.

'Course living with a doof like that, maybe it helps for her to puff a little reefer every now and then. I defy you to marry George Bush and not need some major chilling out assistance from time to time. And sure he's a 'tard and a crappy president with an utter disregard for Constitutional proprieties, but I repeat, he doesn't beat on her.

Of course, looking at the circumstantial evidence, it may just turn out that it's her who's been beating on him. For God's sake, Georgie, stay the hell out of the White House driveway!!

48. Drugs were widely available and used especially from late 1960's on
I can attest to the fact that cocaine was widely available from the late 1960's on at the Ivy Leagues and larger communities, especially among those with money and connections who could travel. I went on spring break to Florida in the early 1970's and saw heavy cocaine use among otherwise law-abiding middle class kids, many who were students at northern Ivy League colleges.

44. I liked this:
Proof of coke use in the late 1980s and early 1990s would mean that Bush used the drug after his reported conversion to Christianity. If that was proved to be the case then the one thing that protects Bush from his hard- partying past – his born-again status and his repentance for past sins – would fall to bits. The cocaine claim is therefore political dynamite.

...oh please, oh please...

I think that even if definitive proof of Bush's coke use in the 70's were to come to light, he could paper it over because "the Lord saved me from all my past wickedness." But tooting up after he found God? I don't know what excuse he could come up with, but it would sure be entertaining to watch!

same treatment the right-wing press gave Clinton for EIGHT years. So what if much of it cannot be proven (because people may have been paid off or worse..). Most of what the right-wingers, including the "REVERAND" Jerry Fallwell, said about Clinton was false but what it does do is force the Bushies to spend time refuting this stuff.

Also, hopefully there is SOMEONE out there who will look at this and then look at the product being sold by Rove, Inc and see that they have been duped.

56. Bush's dark past makes his future all the brighter
Edited on Sun Sep-12-04 09:18 PM by JoFerret
http://news.ft.com/cms/s/4afd1b24-050c-11d9-8f8e-00000e2511c8.html

<<It is one of the great inequities of this campaign that Mr Kerry's actions from more than 30 years ago continue to dog him, while Mr Bush has displayed a Teflon-like ability to slip questions about his reckless and irresponsible youth.

....

Mr Bush has faced questions about his past throughout his political career. Unlike Mr Kerry, he has managed to brush them off with a simple response: "When I was young and irresponsible, I was young and irresponsible."

Cavalier though it may be, that defence was sufficient in the 2000 election because both Mr Bush and Vice- President Al Gore were considered paragons of personal virtue compared with President Bill Clinton.

The one personal smudge for Mr Bush in that campaign was a story about his arrest decades earlier on drunk-driving charges. Karl Rove, the president's chief political strategist, believes as many as 5m evangelical voters stayed away from the polls as a result.

Other political analysts dispute those figures. Yet in a perverse way, the suggestion that Mr Bush had a dark past may have actually enhanced his appeal as a born-again Christian.

"Americans like the story of the sinner saved by prayer," says Karlyn Bowman, a political scientist at the American Enterprise Institute, a Washington think-tank. "It's a very religious country. They love the theme of redemption."

Four years later, it seems the shelf life may have expired on any tales from Mr Bush's lost years. Most voters have long since come to judgment about his character. They are more likely now to focus on a record that has included his handling of the worst terror attack on US soil, two foreign wars and a massive slate of tax cuts.

As the campaign enters the final stretch, there are signs that the Democrats may have the most to lose by rattling the skeletons in the president's closet.

....

In a larger sense, the personal campaign is distracting voters from discussion of healthcare and the economy - serious issues where they prefer Mr Kerry even if they do not find him quite as likeable.

61. Ok, so he's 'found Jeeeesus' but....
Part of being repentent is to follow the commandments of Scripture, one of them being not lying. If he's asked about his past behavior and lies about it, then he's lying now. Hence, he's not being a good Christian and the fundamentalist faction should realize that. And I think many of them will. So we need to keep this issue alive and kicking on the blogs and on OpEd pages so the media is forced to keep asking him about it. He can't win; he either admits he lied about it before or continues to lie in the face of overwhelming evidence to the contrary.
