John Kerry released details Tuesday of his campaign trip planned for eastern Iowa, as a flurry of polls in this key Midwestern battleground gave what experts call conflicting snapshots of the race.

The poll released Tuesday by Zogby International showed the Massachusetts senator ahead of Bush, a Republican, in Iowa for the first time since the Republican National Convention began late last month. The poll showed Kerry with support from 49 percent of likely voters in Iowa, compared to Bush with support from 46 percent. The survey of 566 likely voters was conducted Sept. 13-17. It has a margin of error of 4 percentage points.
