Bush Team Orchestrates Larger Ad Campaign

By LIZ SIDOTI, Associated Press Writer

WASHINGTON - President Bush's political team is orchestrating a vastly larger advertising campaign than thought possible under federal law, taking control of millions in Republican Party funds simply by inserting the phrase "our leaders in Congress" in selected commercials.

The GOP strategy had gone unnoticed for weeks by Sen. John Kerry and the Democrats, who now may abandon their own less cost-efficient approach to advertising.

Ken Mehlman, Bush's campaign manager, said in an interview that federal election law allows the campaign access to party money "provided that your message is broader than the individual candidate and includes a discussion of the overall agenda and the message of the party." The Republican National Committee has $93 million on hand.

6. I don't know how much the DNC has on hand, but if this election
result depends on $$, all they ahve to do is ask! I can't afford much, but if every pi**ed off Dem gave $5.00, they'd have as much as the pubs.

Is it Money???

4. So once again we have a Bush flip flop
First he wants regulation of campaign finances then he wants to subvert the laws he put in place. He just said this a month ago about 527s:

They ought to get rid of all those 527s, independent expenditures that have flooded the airwaves. There have been millions of dollars spent. ... I signed a law that I thought would get rid of those (groups).

Bush is the flip flopper-in-chief.

8. Good point. The Repubs put the loophole in the Law
Edited on Wed Sep-22-04 09:41 PM by nodictators
No wonder Bush and McCain were hugging the other week.

Now we have BushCo with much more money on hand for this backdoor gambit.

Plus, we have the Sh*t Boat Liars using their 527 and running a new round of ads against Kerry.

So, CFR was a total hoax. Soft money now rules the presidential roost, if you know the loopholes.

Be sure to send a "love letter" to McCain, who has just shown himself as another Repub bastard.

Then contribute to Kerry via the DNC!

I will!

10. I think it's safe to say now
that McCain-Feingold was an idiotic law.

Where's Mitch McConnell? He has every right to gloat.

11. At least the DNC is now aware of this...
and can launch all kinds of new ads.

All of that extra money spent by Bush and he's still behind or tied in the polls? HA!
