The GOP Backpedals On Judges - The Hill
<snip>

Senate Republican leaders have backed away from a strategy they adopted this summer to brand Democrats as obstructionists by scheduling nine cloture votes this month on President Bush’s federal appellate-court nominees.

The GOP plan to force Democrats to sustain repeatedly their filibuster of conservative judicial nominees dissipated in the face of looming legislative priorities, which include reform of the nation’s intelligence agencies and 12 unfinished annual appropriations bills.

With so much unfinished business on a rapidly shrinking election-year calendar, Republicans say they cannot afford to jeopardize the bipartisan cooperation sparked by the urgent need to implement the recommendations of the Sept. 11 commission.

Before Congress returned from the August recess, Republicans had threatened to hold multiple votes on quashing judicial filibusters to embarrass Democrats and gain ground in tight Senate races.

LOL... "Wait, we can't do that, we might need these guys."

Forced to be bi-partisan. The horror... the horror.

4. where is our history knowledge, dammit? Are we that dumb?
GOPers ALWAYS back down when forced to put up or shut up.

Doesn't anyone recall the Gringrich who stole X-Mass? Remember when he started believing his own press releases about his infallibility? until two or three brave Dems (now all retired, dammit) stood up to him and stopped his contract with Amerikkka in its tracks?

All it takes is some guts, a clear head, and a recognition of the evil being pushed forward and the GOP collapses.

Even the neocons will collapse if forced to edge. All we need is some leaders in Congress. Some promising ones exist, true, but not enough. Rahm Emanuel looks like he has fire in his belly, and a smart approach. Still, he is young.

5. Bush gets nearly all of his judicial nominees confirmed.
Bush has had the highest percentage of judicial nominees confirmed of any president in modern time. In less than one term he has appointed over 22% of all federal district judges, almost as high a percentage as Clinton in two full terms. And the vacancy rate on the federal bench is near an all time low.

Only people with pus filled brains encrusted with shit believe that democrats in the Senate have blocked an unusually high number of Bush's judicial nominees. It actually has been an unusually LOW number.
