Virginia Radio Station Drops CBS News
Virginia Radio Station Drops CBS News

2 hours, 14 minutes ago

By SONJA BARISIC, Associated Press Writer

NORFOLK, Va. - A news-talk radio station in southeastern Virginia has dumped CBS News because of listener outrage over Dan Rather's "60 Minutes" report questioning President Bush (news - web sites)'s National Guard service.

WNIS switched Thursday to ABC News.

"We had so much outcry from our listeners. They were calling and complaining and saying they wouldn't listen to a CBS newscast anymore," said Lisa Sinclair, general manager of Sinclair Communications, which owns WNIS and four other stations in the Norfolk area, home to the world's largest naval base.

"This is a conservative market, and people felt that CBS was exhibiting a great deal of liberal bias and lost credibility with this situation," Sinclair said, referring to the Sept. 8 story.

1. so, by that same logic, shouldn't they all be ready to
drop George Bush over the forged uranium documents? It really must be wonderful to live in a world where you get to pick and choose your own reality. :7

6. Gosh.. Virginia.. imagine that! Home of ALL the RW groups...
..including the illustrious www.rathergate.com What is it about Virginia and Florida? WHy do those nice states attract such total disgusting scum like that?

The media is so clueless.. they have NO idea that the faxes and letters and calls are generated from www.rathergate.com??? A concerted effort to have Dan Rather fired.. brought to you by a minion of the Roger Stone, Richard Scaife crowd.

This is BIGGER than the memo, folks.. this was a set up as a pay back to Rather.

9. yes sinclair/rw universities/ and some real sickos here in va
pat robertson, ed schrock the newly outed and resigned congressman, yes and the rw has taken over the vb city council - they are everywhere - even the nbc news reporter made the comment one day that bush is a veteran too - this was with covering a kerry campaign stop here.

well sinclair doesn't have any normal listeners anyway - so I can see why they need to narrow their view more -

we will see what happens with the election

I see a lot of david ashe for congress signs - Dem -

12. Fox liars
How many cable or satellite operators dropped Fox when it falsely reported WMD findings when these reports were only a bunch of false alarms?

Fox never apologized for their errors and nobody held them accountable for their lies.

Why the double standards???

Their ignorance will cause further intimidation by the news media to cater to viewers' preferences. This is disgusting.

22. Sinclair dropped "Politically Incorrect," too
in S.C. We did get to see the Nightline tribute to the dead, though, because an Atlanta station broadcast it.

24. Its no shock.WNIS is all right wing hate all of the time. check it out..
Im from this area and WNIS is nothing but right wing garbage from the bottom of the barrel. So is it ANY of a shock that is listeners wanted CBS off after all of its programs and been doing nothing but calling CBS the great Satan even before the the paper contraversy..heres its programing to give you an idea of its target demographic.
midnight- 1 am " Matt Drudge"
01:00am - 05:00am "Coast to Coast AM"
05:00am - 06:00am "America in the Morning" with Jim Bohannon
06:00am - 10:00am "Macrini's Morning News Team"
10:00am - 12:00pm Neal Boortz
12:00pm - 3:00pm Rush Limbaugh
3:00pm - 6:00pm Sean Hannity
6:00pm - 8:00pm Bill O'Reilly
8:00pm - 11:00pm Michael Savage
11:00pm - midnight Rusty Humphries
I did notice that they took off Lib weenie Alan Colmes who used to be on mon thru fri..not a shock!!
Even its DJ's on its sister stations will spout off right wing screeds from time to time ( 96x rock...BOB fm )

FUnny how they will tolerate the lies of Boortz, Limbuagh and Savage but will axe CBS for one problem.. Looks like they were looking for a reason
