Justice Department Steps Up Surveillance Amid Fears Of Attack
Here's that terror threat you were all expecting, right on schedule.

(WASHINGTON, September 23rd, 2004, 4:30 p.m.) -- As the election draws nearer, U.S. officials are increasingly concerned al-Qaida terrorists will mount a devastating attack to try to disrupt the political process.

In an unusual move, Attorney General John Ashcroft held a conference call with all 93 U.S. attorneys to spread the word that prosecutors and law enforcement officers should take every conceivable step to counter the threat, said two senior law enforcement officials briefed on the call.

... The FBI also is checking new information gained from arrests of al-Qaida operatives, especially those in Britain and Pakistan, to see if any potential terrorist activities or warning signs in the United States have been overlooked.

The law enforcement officials, who spoke Thursday on condition of anonymity because of the sensitivity of the issue, said the United States still has no information indicating a time, place or method of attack.

3. Don't know what their problem is...
Iraq is going to have elections in January amidst all the terrorist attacks and Afghanistan is going to have elections SOMEDAY (LOL) with attacks going on. I would guess we can do as much.

4. Honestly, I don't know why they'd want to disrupt the elections...
I really can't understand what they'd gain by doing that. It would only help Bush, and I thought the terrorists were afraid of Bush? More fear mongering. After that hideous "press conference" today in which Bush basically did a campaign speech, I expect nothing true from the white house anymore.

5. Ahem, same DOJ that has gone 0 and 5000 on terrorist convictions?
Oh, wait, that score is 0 and 5001 as of yesterday... they also blew their case against the alledged spy at Gitmo.

Yeah, we trust their judgement :eyes:
