Two new polls put Feingold in front
Edited on Fri Sep-24-04 12:38 AM by mark414
<snip>

Less than six weeks before the election, two new polls show U.S. Sen. Russ Feingold (D-Wis.) holding a lead over Republican challenger Tim Michels, in part by drawing significant support from voters who also support President Bush.

EDIT:

this is VERY interesting

1. it's the Packers effect
Feingold is decidedly pro-Packers, from what I read:

3. That is amazing...
Completely different philosophies...

Shouldn t a Feingold voter be a Kerry voter?

4. It is kind of funny

but Fiengold is sort of an independant in many ways.

What's amazing is he was the lone voter against the PATRIOT Act...and that too in a state where his seat was never completely safe. After all, he knew he'd be up for reelection just a few years later. He also voted against the war in Iraq.

It seems like the people of WI respect his willingness to take a controversial stand on various issues.

I myself like him a lot, but I still think his votes on confirmations are strange and I don't agree with his reasoning on that.

7. I really, really like Russ Feingold
He is one of the few really honest people in Washington. He votes his principles, & if people don t agree, well tough luck.

It seems most people go to Washington with good intentions, then come down with Potomac fever, but not him.

5. Let's take the Badger poll with a grain of salt -
it has Bush up 52-38 over Kerry in Wisconsin... methinks they've oversampled Republicans, or else something is very wrong up there.

8. Didn't ARG have it tied?
Either way, I think the state is way too close to call. At most, Bush has a lead of 2-3 points...definetely not insurmountable, and definetely not up by more than 10. I've never found the Badger polls to make much sense.

10. If that is true
then that spells eventual trouble for Bush if these shaky GOPers are voting for a non-con Dem. Inadvertently they may be revealing a big soft spot in Bush's vote nationwide.

13. According to Badger Poll, they only sampled Probable Voters
All voters are registered...therefore, this figure does not include the new voters who are turning out in droves.

My speculation is that the presidential race IS close. Even Badger says that things could swing radically in the next few weeks.

The good news seems to be that Feingold has VERY strong support, and will probably take this election by a wide margin.

CAUTION: According to Russ's newsletter, there is going to be strong support from the RNC in the next few weeks - lots of media blitz. Fortunately, Michels is an idiot. Most people know this. :)
