COLUMBUS, Ohio - A Republican Party fund-raiser has filed a lawsuit accusing a state Senate candidate of breach of contract for failing to pay $62,000 in fees, including a $50,000 "win bonus."
Rep. Timothy Grendell of Chesterland has told Secretary of State Kenneth Blackwell that he didn't keep a copy of the Dec. 16, 2003 contract he signed with fund-raiser Kyle Sisk. Sisk told The Columbus Dispatch on Thursday that consultant Brett Buerck witnessed Grendell signing the contract, which included a $50,000 bonus for Grendell's primary victory March 2.
Grendell also failed to pay $12,000 of $24,000 for three months of campaign work, according to the lawsuit filed Thursday in Franklin County Common Pleas Court. "We've got a contract," Sisk said. "He signed it. I have witnesses he signed it. He won. He needs to pay."
Grendell said his campaign paid the $24,000, and said Sisk's lawsuit named him and his campaign treasurer, John Ralph, "just to be spiteful. Neither me (nor) my treasurer can pay a campaign" bill.
