(Iraqi) Troop documents conflict with Bush claims

http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/6093447/

Reuters actually does some journalism -- What this proves is that Kerry is right to hit Bush on Iraq - Kerry's speaking out and leading the journalists to water (the true story with facts) has produced several articles this week doubting Bush's "rose colored glasses" story.

There is not such thing as investigative journalism any more - it is all about who hands me the story and I will write it.

Fewer Iraqi security forces will be fully trained by the end of this year than cited by President George W. Bush and it will take until July 2006 to fully train the police force, according to Pentagon documents.

With interim Iraqi Prime Minister Iyad Allawi at his side, Bush said on Thursday that nearly 100,000 fully trained and equipped Iraqi soldiers, police officers and other security personnel are already working and this number would rise to 125,000 by the end of this year.

But documents prepared by Defense Department officials and given to lawmakers show that fewer than 100,000 will be trained by the end of this year.

The Pentagon also said on Monday that only about 53,000 of the 100,000 Iraqis on duty now have undergone training.

The documents, obtained by Reuters, show that of the nearly 90,000 currently in the police force, only 8,169 have had the full eight-week academy training. And it will be July 2006 before the administration’s new goal of 135,000 fully trained police is met.

3. No, No! mis-spoke! Meant to say "8,169" - not 100,000!
Note how similar the two numbers are in sound. And really, that's kind of splittling hairs, isn't it? 8,169 or 100,000 - it's really just about the same, isn't it?

9. Train them to shoot our children in the backs! Train them to aid and give
information to the rebels and terrorists. Train them to leave the back doors unlocked to allow rebels and terrorist to kill our children. Wake up!

16. Didn't Saddam have one of the biggest armies in the world?
Wasn't that why, with his stocks of WMD's and chemical weapon, the big reason we said he was so dangerous? We had to invade because with his big army and WMD's he was such a major threat to other countries (ie Israel) in the region?

So here we are 1.5 years after the invasion and we can't train and organize a local boy scout troop, no less a military & police force so the Iraqis can take care of their own security?

Even if we train all these folks, so what? How many of them take their weapons and training and turn around to fight with the insurgents? Thanks for the nice new gun Uncle Sam, see ya sucker.

17. Personally.....
If I were an Iraq insurgent fighter (or an international terrorist) determined to get the US out of my country, I'd sign up for training right away. Free military training and access to the finest new weapons American Tax dollars can buy, what more could an Iraqi insurgent ask for? Considering the current mood in Iraq toward the US, it may be a very good thing for our soldiers in Iraq that they aren't getting more Iraqis trained.
