2. Resignation and some denial
Not everywhere, not everybody, but online reports document some denial about this dangerous storm. I think this morning's reports will bring a strong sense of reality to most.

My school has a student car wash scheduled this morning in the Tampa Bay area. The students won't be in any danger, but a few storms earlier would have found most of our families bugging out by now (I wouldn't know where to evacuate for Jeanne) and the car wash cancelled a few days ago.

3. Me too! Yet we must prepare for this storm to move into the Gulf as
Andrew did. I know the forecasts say it's going to turn, yet... I am still awake worried about it... and still exhausted and behind in school from Ivan. Can you believe we were recently getting rain in Louisiana from Ivan, again?!

4. This storm is getting bigger
http://www.wunderground.com/tropical/

"Hurricane force winds extend outward up to 70 miles...110 km...
from the center...and tropical storm force winds extend outward up
to 205 miles...335 km."

The 8pm advisory (last one ai saw last night) had hurricane winds extending outward only 45 miles. The velocity stayed the same 105mph.

6. Jeanne strengthens, takes aim at Florida
Storm would be fourth to hit Sunshine State this season

Saturday, September 25, 2004 Posted: 7:31 AM EDT (1131 GMT)

MIAMI, Florida (CNN) -- For the fourth time in the last five weeks, storm-weary residents of Florida are preparing for the arrival of a hurricane -- this time, Jeanne, which is now swirling west toward the Sunshine State with 105 mph winds after meandering around the Caribbean for nearly two weeks.

Jeanne will "likely become a major hurricane" Saturday, before making landfall somewhere on Florida's Atlantic coast early Sunday, according to the National Hurricane Center's 5 a.m. advisory. <...>

A strike by Jeanne would make unwelcome history.

Since hurricane information has been recorded, Florida has never been hit by four hurricanes in the same year, according to Max Mayfield, director of the National Hurricane Center. Texas was hit by four hurricanes in 1886, he said.

7. Yep. I'm just sitting here listening to the tropical storm gusts.

I was in the direct path of Jeanne. Now it's going a little north of here. Got the shutters closed. Cable is already knocked out. I'm expecting the electric to go at any time. It's a little after 5PM now so the worst is yet to come.

I've got some steaks to cook and some booze. The booze is for other people. heh I'd rather be sober in case the house blows away. Then again, don't they say you're body handles being tossed around better when you're already three sheets to the wind?

My worst nightmare is that fact they said that the power line guys are so exhausted from all the hurricanes that when electricity is lost, a good number of places might not get it back on for up to three weeks.

I will not be in Florida for another hurricane season. That's if I make it out in one piece from this one.

8. North Carolina has been hit by almost every hurricane this season
Almost every one - we've gone right down the alphabet. The people in western NC can't take anymore rain. They've lost their homes and businesses (and some of them have lost their lives).

Think of the relief that our military could provide to Americans suffering from natural disasters if they weren't waging war on the other side of the world.

9. Skarbrowe, I commiserate -

Delray - waiting for the big blasts...lights have flickered some but we still have electricy and phone.

refrigerator and freezer turned to coldest hoping I wont lose $300 worth of food this time.

shutters down, thermoses of coffee and tea ready, frozen water in
fridge and ice cubes, pre-prepared food and when that's gone lot of
cans of food - pillows in bathtub with mattress ready to cover.

but, like you, worried about the roof. Francis cost me $500 in roof
repairs - blown off shingles - last time, and that was only gusts of
95 to 100 mph - now a steady 125 mph wind, with gusts to what? has
me depressed (and I'm never depressed, but Jane has done it this time)

If the roof goes, I wont have a house, but if there is just some shingles gone - (please God) repairs will be okay.

What worries me most is the winds and the chance of tornadoes.

Chanel 6 showing Boca beach with 5 to 8 foot swells and some idiot in
the surf fishing. No comment.

Interesting if the electric goes, Jeb might be able to delay it past
November 2 - so no voting could take place...

I'll stay in Florida - as long as every hurricane season doesn't continue like this.

Check with you all later.

Pallas

On Edit: see the bottom of that angry red part in the pics of the hurricane above? - that's what's heading for my town. carp. tish.
